there is some plastic kit with 1:72 torpedoes of WW2 era. might be helpful. see the link:
http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/index.php?CATEGORY=&DIVISION=&MANUFACTURER=CMK+Maritime+Line&TYPE=&order%5B%5D=arrived+desc&order%5B%5D=code+asc&CODE=&SCALE=&KEYWORD=&NUMPERPAGE=25

in some lines of model ships fittings there might be some interesting bits and parts see here:

What is that? Stephen Hawkins orthopaedic submarine?

Apparently some folk have weird hobbies.... they are called 'manned models' apparently. This one however is the full size flagship of the Swiss Navy.  :D

Outstanding - not sure if it's outstanding genious or madness - but I love it. I'll be following this with interest.
Reminds me of the ships built in 20mm for Rapid Fire that were featured in Wargames Illustrated in the '90s, but even more so.

I think you'll need at least one more escort for it.

As some others have said - where are you going to store it? Just as well you use "small scale" figures god help us if you ever start to collect traditional toy soldiers or 1/6th scale!

looking forward to the next update.

where are you going to store it?

Well, partly the plan is to plan some games with it, so at least some of the time it will be on my games table for harbour based games...or possibly in the hall, or even the garden for a larger naval game!

Storage-wise, it will fit on top of my display cabinets...just!

Another plus point for this particular carrier, is the lack of a bridge island - if needs be I could design the pieces to sit one on top of the other  lol

The advantage of the building materials I chose is that they are pretty robust, but not overly heavy - the destroyer survived a collision with a door the other day, with the tiniest of scrapes, which actually looked quite good, so I left it!

 lol

Well..when this model is finished, who knows?   ;)

In all seriousness, there is a limit to what I can store for now, plus I have a few hundred figures that I need to get painted in the next couple of months, so after this one, i'll probably have a little break from shipbuilding.

apart from that, it inspires me to design a gaming table for a docked ship
with deck and one side wall

don't know, Titanic or "Admiral Graf Spee"

but even this is nuts

Hang on a minute, unless you are planning to detail the interior as well (!), make the flight deck removable and use it to store models INSIDE!  :D
