It is painted for preservation

Some RN carriers (and USN) had armoured decks, while others were wood - either way, they could be coated with a substance to preserve them, and to add grip - this substance could be grey, or painted.

I've gone with a Dazzle colour scheme, as the thought of painting a 10 foot long ship in grey was fairly soul destroying - doubtless there will be pedants that tell me i've done it wrong, used the wrong tone of grey blue etc etc....just for the record - I DON'T CARE!

Spiffy model. I'm really looking forward to seeing pics of it fitted-out.

Technically speaking, I'm not sure whether there is an end to this project, as i'll probably keep coming back and adding stuff when I feel like it.

However, as far as going on a wargames table, the carrier is now "ready" for action - ie the paintwork is sealed.

Added the stanchions to the fore AA position, just needs threading.

I've also added some more bulkhead doors, and some girders, to the mid section - the latter, I might use to attach life rafts etc. I didn't go overboard (no pun intended) on them though, as i'll be adding crew figures to the walkway, which is why i've also not used the stanchions for this section.

Anchors (I think they were Billings?) were one of the few commercial pieces I used, the steam catapult is just a few bits of plasticard/wire etc.

And now for some gratuitous shots including planes for the sheer hell of it!

A pair of Corgi 1/48th Brewster Buffalos - might give these a paintjob, and use them with the carrier - first flew in Dec 1937, the USN started testing in Jan 1938, and ordered them mid-38, so I guess a couple of early models could have been picked up by protagonists in VBCW - certainly not a superweapon, but they were carrier planes....

The crew will have to wait until after FIASCO, as I have some work to do on the zombie-front!

4 x Brewster Buffalos F2A (1/48th Corgi Diecasts)

I know the markings aren't perfect - due to my decal-phobia.

Markings as per FAA 1938 (I think).

Crew:

By now you will have noticed the lack of any weapons on the ship - by 1936 it was a training ship, so its 4" guns had been removed in the 1936 refit, leaving it with MGs.

The crew are a mix of Brigade Games, Artizan, Blue Moon, 1st Corps, Copplestone, with headswops from Gripping Beast, and weapons from BEF.

Have redone the washes on some of the woolly sweaters since I took these photos, but tbh, I did the 21 man shoreparty from basecoat, in one sitting last night, as they are a rush job for Saturday's game.
