just trying to imagine 2 handlers, 2 MG gunners and 1 loader/commander cramped into that box...
(or the gunners used pedals?
)
since there is a crank visible (well, I can't recognize one but trust Tacgnol)
I would go for gasoline, also beecause diesel technology wasn't that developed at that time
I remember reading that diesel locos were actually electrical ones with a diesel generator for a long time until they mastered the transmission
maybe Chris can give some details on that...
god, that must have been noisy in that box, and how did they breathe?....
"so, sergeant, have You found any signs of track sabotage or partisans ahead?"
"Sir? rack canotage? there is no body of water ahead? And neither an artisan shop"
"sergeant! Sabotage and Partisans!"
"Sir? sabot Barge? Barbed tyrants?"
"What? Barbed Tyrants? only 40K years later sarge!"
"Sir? A Party Titan? Is Comrade Trotzky ahead of us?"
"No Sarge, that train is on the northern Front! Sarge... ahm, Private - if You have 3 beans and 2 beans, what does that make?"
"Sir, a very small casserole" (damn, I slipped into another one..)
".... dismissed. Private, go clean the latrines! Engine, go ahead!"
boom....
"Comissar, Commander Strelnikov is gone totally bonkers. He thinks Commissar Trotzky is singing in the rain on the northern front!"
"Private, don't talk badly about heroes of the Revolution!!"
and this is how lore comes to live....
