Egyptian gunners?
« on: November 23, 2009, 12:55:31 PM »
I'm looking for some egyptian gunners for my gunboat artillery. Any recommendations of nice suited 28 mm miniatures?

Not quite Perry sculpts but there may be some in the Askari range.

Normally I should follow Gamer Mac's advicue and say look no further than Perrys. You would be hard-pressed to find better figures. But I think in this case you have to buy the gun and crew as a set, which you may not want to do.

You could always buy the figure and gun sets and then give the guns to the Mahdists.

That's what the Egyptians did, after all  ;)

Failing that, I'm sure some LAFer or other would do a deal and buy the guns off you, as it's rare to see anything better than the Perrys sculpts.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I don't like the Askari ones, these are awful sculpts. I think I'll go for Perry's, although the poses are a bit stiff and static as usual. I would have liked some more dynamic poses, like firing the gun, aiming, loading, not just standing around.
Anyway, another option would be to go for a Naval Brigade crew with figs from Copplestone or Perry.
We'll see ...

I didn't say you would like them, just that they may have some. I have the Italians and Askaris which are great sculpts but some of the earlier stuff does look a little ropey
