(WIP) Battleship in 1/56th (28mm)
« on: November 28, 2009, 10:43:31 PM »
My next project will be this:

HMS Nelson

9 x 16" guns in 3 triple turrets - all mounted forward of the superstructure
12 x 6" secondary guns in 6 pairs - all mounted toward the stern

710' long, so expect a model of about 12-13 foot in length, but not until after Xmas!

Currently in the planning stages, but I thought, that if I started this thread now, you lot wouldn't let me back out of it!

I think someone should do a bunch of submarines and sea mines to curb the old shark´s ambitions, before his accumulated tonnage creates a naval wargaming singularity!  lol

Really, really looking forward to seeing that one.

Well...like I said, I won't be starting on it until after Xmas, so you've got a while to build some subs....

Just so we're all on the same page, is it the entire Home Fleet you're planning on building, or merely the Reserve Fleet?

And I ask again; where do the zombies go?

Good luck... ::)
I told you so. You damned fools.

You need to cut a round hole near the centre of balance of your battleship, so you can wear it on your head and fight crime! Mr Battleshiphead - heavily-armed Limey relative of the mighty Mr. Canoehead!!  lol

-sigh- Canada's greatest aluminum crimefighter and brother of Ted!

I used to love that show. Otherwise I'll be following this project with interest. I always liked the look of Nelson and Rodney.

Wonderful idea, although I'd probably opt for Rodney rather than Nelson.

If you're doing this for 1938, how about the Royal Oak ?
Or even the Iron Duke - still in service in 1939 running gunnery courses at Scapa.

You'll need more escorts too. Could I put in a suggestion for HMS Glasgow ?

Seriously... you need help.  lol

Anyway.. did it carry a seaplane?

I will be following the vessel's construction with interest as usual.  :)

everything quite easy if You have a lot of time and own a sportshall to house it and a truck to transport it...

so, for 2011 Titanic or Great Eastern?

or Galactica in 1/56 ??

 ;)

He doesn't really, if his treating of models is always like this: Today I watched one of his "Toy Stories" documentaries where he built a perfectly fine Airfix Bismarck, only to float it on a little pond and using an air rifle to sink it.  :-[

I was so gobsmacked when I saw it that I was only soothed when he bought a nice model locomotive for 200+ quid and actually played with it in order to save it from a poor fate in some anorak collector's showcase.  lol

As for the topic, as for the pitiful lack of ASW capacity, I´d bet a handful of S-Class submarines would make short work of all your wonderful efforts...  :'( ;)
