Blooming gorgeous work, Svenn. I'll even forgive you for building this when you should be getting on with painting some Incas...

Truly a superb job.

I really have had it with all these Thunderchicken clones!  I decided to change my name from "Thunderchicken" to "Rudi" and that's final!

Svennn, you have my home address...   lol

That looks awesome so far - and only 6"x12"? It looks bigger than that, I'd have guessed a fair bit bigger.

How are the windows done? Are the frames commercial models, Grandt Line or similar?

A bit more done. The roof is only there to support the tiling that comes later. I added some figs and a ruler as requested (to prove I was not lying about my 12" really  ::)) I added an internal wall just to help support the roof.

The windows. I drew them in Illustrator and then printed them onto acetate sheets. The embossed plasticard is too flimsy to build with so I stuck it to foamboard and just popped the acetate windows between the two. Adding ledges to the bottom of the apertures makes all the difference too.

If you want a pdf of the original file just send me a pm.

very nice and effective, as usual Svenn  :)
did I miss where You told what You used for the walls?

for all other Thunderchicken:
No intention to diminish Svenn's performance here, however there are quite a lot "period 1" HO railway kits that look pretty much industrial. None is "true-scaled" like Svenn's, but they are pretty big and some have big enough doors, and windows anyway. I own some myself, and You can see others displayed in the "Tsingtao" game.

Of course these are kits, but the lazy ones (like me sometimes) can shoot them pretty cheap on ebay, and with some luck they are even properly built and painted.

But be aware: railway building kits in HO vary a lot in scale, so You should be sure to get the bigger-scaled ones. I've seen quite a lot of them, so just ask.

I also have a retailer around the corner who sells them 2nd hand  ;)

Tis a rare this of beauty. I like te extra details like the hinges and door handles. Looking superb, Thunderpants Industrial complex is going to look stunning. :)

How exactly do you print onto acetate?  I have tried before but the ink always seems to stay wet and wipes off.

The building is looking fantastic

Funny you should say that ::)

There are different types of acetate for different printer types. Add to that that all inks are not equal it can cause quite a few problems - it did for me on this build.

This time I got around it by using a photocopier ;)

I used overhead projector acetates before for windows. You need to make sure the type of acetate suits your printer i.e. laser jet/ink jet. You also need to make sure you print it on the correct side. One side is rough and holds the ink, the other is very smooth and does not!

Excellent Svennn  :-*

It looks like the old Shortlands pumping station where my old man used to work. It had an old beam engine and everything.

Like most things in London it's been converted into flats now  ::)
