Monsters/Creatures, Which are your favourites?
« on: April 26, 2007, 11:05:59 AM »
Somof you may have guessed from looking at my collection that I favour Vampires and all things Gothic, such as Werewolves etc  when it comes to painting and gaming the horror genre. :)

This got me thinking which are your favourites and which settings/periods do you like to play in?  :?:

Deep Ones and minor demon-types ala Cthulhu. If I had to pick a "traditional" monster, it would be Werewolves. I find them much more interesting than vampires.

btw , which mini's do you use for deep ones?

As to the monster question, it changes from time to time.

Since I brought back some biker werewolfs from Salute , I think the Werewolfs are about to make a comeback :)

yup , thats the ones :)

My friend got the vampires on bikes.
Since I have some 10 human bikers lying around here, we can see a biker gang war break out in the near future.

Another bit to add to our upcoming site :)

Not really into the main traditional horror monsters much. I find vampires and werewolves and stuff like that just too silly to get into. It's the same problem I have with Wild West gaming. Our culture is so saturated with these things that to me they are a tired cliché before I even start playing them.

It takes a very original and inspired treatment to get me remotely interested in Vampires, Werewolves or anything like that (and cowboys and Indians, too!). Putting Wesley Snipes or Kate Beckinsale into films and turning them into martial-arts pictures didn't do it for me, either. I like Horror to be scary, not just an action flick with vampires and werewolves instead of Arnie and Terrorists.

As far as horror reading goes, I'm a sucker for HP Lovecraft, but I think mostly I enjoy ghost stories. M.R. James, that type of thing.

The only horror gaming I have ever done has been Cthulhu-related. Call of Cthulhu was the first RPG I ever owned (and the first I ever GMed) and have always enjoyed it, though I haven't played it for years. Done a little Cthulhu-related figure-gaming with various rules, but not much. Hope to do more some time.

Horror gaming isn't one of my subjects so far, if you don't count Dinosaur hunting.
If one day it hits me (and it surely will), for me it's always Werewolves  :D . Vampires are for sissies   .

My vote does also go to the werewolves. Nasty beasts and there are lots of nice figures around. They are also stronger than vampires in close combat  8) .

not really :) There aren't too many horror archetypes I don't like. I very like vampires but werewolves as well, Cthulhu and Frankenstein Monster, Voodoo and Zombies and so on. I like definitely too much stuff. Maybe it's because I was growing up in Russia without going through the main stream. I have watched my first horror movie 1989, that was "The Fly" with Jeff Goldblum :) And my absolute favourit is "Bram Stoker's Dracula" with Sir Anthony Hopkins. This movie ist the inexhaustible source of inspiration to me.

I've never gamed any horror setting, but I'm a sucker for the Lovecraft type of monsters. Not unlike Plynkes, I think vampires, werewolves and all that is a little corny. I enjoy the modern portrayals of them in shows like Dresden Files and movies like Blade, but I'm not into gaming it.

I also think zombies are cool in the Voodoo interpretation, but less so in the Romero-esque one (I've always hated splatter and camp horror).

There's a case to be made for the monsters from traditional Asian horror stories, too.
