The x-box controller is a Unmanned Ground (or Air) Vehicle control pad, and they are all deliberately made to look like, and function in a similar way to, X-Box and PlayStation controllers. This is to make training easier for the troops of the PlayStation Generation.

Note that he's looking through the helmet-mounted monocular to see what the drone's seeing. British soldiers have something similar and will have something better (in theory) WATCHKEEPER.
