Race for the Yangtee River - Further Adventures in Tingtong!
« on: January 03, 2010, 01:22:07 AM »
The paddle steamer, Starling, has transported a relief column up the Yangtee River to meet with a retreating group of civilians and British troops. As the relief troops land on the river bank at an old customs post, hordes of Chinese spring a large ambush!

The boat arrives and the European Relief Force disembark and take up positions...

Meanwhile the retreating British force makes its way through the lush forest...

Captain Keene of the Relief Force spots the retreating column in the distance...

But danger lurks among the greenery...

The game started well for the Europeans, they got the upper hand in the firefights and had soon despatched most of the Chinese riflemen, but this allowed the Chinese close combat troops the time to get close and when they did, they proved unstoppable!

They quickly cut through the Turkish Irregulars, then the British Redcoats and stormed the Customs House! The French were the next to fall to their blades and they then formed up and charged for the boat... At which point the boats gun decided to misfire twice in a row with the Chinese at point blank range...

The European commanders look a little worried...

...While the Chinese commander seems to be doing his facial exercises...

After that it was all over and despite Kapitan Vassily's valiant efforts, the Chinese torched the boat and massacred the retreating column. Only Vassily from the Relief Column survived and he dived into the river from the burning gunboat to raise the alarm of the disaster. Of the civilians, only two lived and they were taken prisoner by the Chinese.

I suspect Vassily will swim back to the town of Tingtong to raise the alarm and help lead an attack on the Jade Dragon stronghold to rescue the two ladies from the Chinese fiends!

The British find themselves in a sticky position...

Close fighting breaks out around the statues...

The Chinese drive on for the boat...

As they storm the boat they soon despatch its defenders and set it alight...

Kapitan Vassily plugs a few more Chinese before diving into the Yangtee River...

The game ended with a total victory for the Chinese, a first victory no less, but it was a close run thing, it all came down to the two cannon misfires in a row!

Next time the European forces will have to get their revenge...

What a great looking game, especially like the jungle terrain. Love it.
