Base for the Berlin Building [pics heavy] *updated 8/1*
« on: January 07, 2010, 06:48:18 PM »
All made today:
I just wanted to make a kind of base before painting my first cast of building, and I decided to make a sort of urban base. It is placed on a piece of styrofoam, that a friend of mine gave me. I started cutting the square:

then I cutted 4 strips, around 5mm thin, to make the borders in copplestone:

cutted them, and with a tool made of me (I took inspiration from a great modeller online, but unfortunately i lost the link) i made the peacock copplestone pattern, makin it a bit irregular:

carving off al the errors with an empty pen:

and here's the final result:

as you can see, I putted some sanding paper below the copplestone, it will be a fine urban ground!
anyway, after that i carved some bomb craters on the street, and added rocks and sand all around

and adding a nice touch: a signal for the roads names, i will enjoy finding good names during the painting phase!!!!

that's the painted stuff: the building is casted by me in resin, and i'm gonna sell it (i wanna make some good photos, before starting selling)

now.. only painting left!!!! see you soon guys!!!
hoping you'll like that,
cheers

Jack

Thatīs one fine building, although Berlin saw no flat roofs, as far as I know... Anyway, that makes it more playable!

I like that cobblestone method.

The base looks like it is coming along nicely.

partial painting done - the base

for the building it will take a bit longer time... i'm pretty satisfied by the work!

EDIT: the images looks a bit burned by the light.... but is still a wip, I'll make more photos when finished!

Nice building and paintjob! Realistic model of an urban residential house, I really love it.

Next job? The reichstag?  lol

Mighty cool!   :o

I would like to buy sheets of cobblestone. Any plans of selling that?

nope, but they are pretty fast to make: all you have to do i making the tool, then it's fast and nice! :)

it's not impossible that i will cast cobblestones in the future, but for now.. not yet! :P

Next job? The reichstag?  lol

actually, after i finished this i decided that selling and casting and shipping is too long for the income i should take by this... so i dropped the project.
Nowadays i'm working for a shop, casting medieval buildings... :)

cheers,
Jack

yep: pick a big old brush and cut off the brush. then take a copper tube, and shape it like a square, then sand the edges and you will have a square sharpened tool!

yeah, i'm really happy and proud! :P

I really like your base. I like the building too but the flat roof throws me off a bit. The one problem I detect with the base is it's monochromatic paint job. It needs a little earth tone. Try giving it a light brown ink wash. I think you like the results.
