Given I use penny bases for 28mm figures, this tempts.

How does the depth look against a 28mm figure, though?

Hi Frank,
I painted these following this method:
Wash first in warm soapy water, dry.
Undercoat with mat grey acrylic paint spray.
Once dry, paint with acrylic paints, I did drag browns and green first. Also, paint out sand bags in dard yellows, wooden boarding in brown and wriggly tin in khaki green. I then picked out some of the sand bagging with a dark brown.
Then apply sepia wash over the whole model and allow to dry.
Apply a black wash to trench wooden boarding areas.. Allow to dry.
Then dry brush using ever lighter Colures.
Seal with a Matt varnish and apply flock to edges.
Thats it.
I am currently doing a painting guide and how to build video to go with the product.
I hope to get these on the web store before the end of this week. More pictures will follow.

WL, here are a couple of shots of one of the new 28mm Perry's Desert War Brits in the EWM trench-works.

Clearly, the parapet could be higher, but this certainly tells the story. Keep in mind, this is an unbased figure upon the firing-step, any figures down in the trench proper would be better 'protected'.

Perry Bros. Desert War Brit used with permission.

This range may be big enough to work with 28mm figures, but the interior spacing has been created with penny (19mm) basing in mind, so while your figures would have no trouble, figures on 30mm bases may have a tough time getting a good fit.
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

Some more pictures showing the first and second lines connected. Distance from front line through comms trench to rear is 32 inches. You will see they are all held together by magnets, on plastic card surface for photo's, but they all hold together really well. If careful, you can pick up the entire front line in one joined section.

More details can be found at:-

The range is now available and some of it is already loaded on the store. The rest will follow shortly.

That is quite impressive, and 28mm figures look like they'd be fine in these trenches, at least assuming you don't used oversize bases!

Thanks for sharing the photos, peabody & Von milligan!

I made these using Styrofoam and wood filler. It really didn't take all that long and I think they turned out fairly well.

That does look good. It also looks incredibly familiar - did you run a Canadians vs Germans WW1 trench battle at Vancouver, BC's Trumpeter Salute convention a couple years ago, with chlorine gas clouds?

WL, that's the chap. The White Rock boys always bring something memorable to Trumpeters Salute each year.

WL, yes that was me, of the White Rock Group.
Here are some photos of it.

Chris Leach is working on a WW1 supplement for "Battles for Empire 2". We used a variant of the BFE 1 in this game with some gas rules I came up with for the game.

Cheers,
Thomas

Good show Thomas! Always nice to see another lower-mainlander here on the LAF.

Excellent news that Chris is going to focus on a more modern theatre... I have yet to catch the Horse & Musket bug although Walter and Francis keep trying to infect.

Will have to get working on my stash of 28mm Doughboys!

Just been reading through your posts, and thought I'd add my two pennies worth.I've tackled trenches in a slightly different way opting to represent a breastworks rather than traditional trench works,as no matter how good the sculpting the fact is the model always ends up sitting on the table, rather than being part of table. So l've embraced the fact and made it part of the design.
The main difference is this system has stand alone component's ie fire trench ,mortar pit,fwd op.etc So you can use them with or without a trench system.Which makes them more usable .There is a system of chest hight communication trenches with built in barbed wire .  There is set of barbed wire on resin bases. Its not on release just yet (early 2014).but if you nag 1st Corps Miniatures.they may let me post some pic's

The EWM stuff really looks like the best bet.  It's really a shame that it's 20mm. I'm guessing that with big figures like those from Great War minis it will look much too small. Might work with OldGlory figures mounted on pennies though. I wonder how it would look with Scarabs or Brigade Games stuff?  Otherwise I guess Kallistra is the only real option for those of us unskilled enough to make our own trenches...
