1st Carlist War 1835-1838 - uniform advice needed!
« on: January 23, 2010, 03:58:55 PM »
Unable to keep my focus on my workbench I feel I am sliding into a new project - the 1st Carlist War. I am in the process of reading Brett´s book on the British Legion and soon I need to plan my forces. While drooling over the Perry range I know I have a fair number of British from Foundrys Sikh Wars range and also some from 1st Corps Cape Wars range. Is there any uniform experts out there that can if these miniatures would be suitable for the Carlist War? Most grateful for any advice!

Depends how anal you are. Any figures in Bell top shako and shell jacket will probably pass as Marines, although Perry do some. Albert shakos which were worn by the time of the First Sikh War won't really do. Peaked forage caps in the time period of the Carlist War were only authorised for officers or for men on hot weather stations like India and it was a local adaption, not universal. The Foundry First China War range are a somewhat better fit.

Thanks Carlos!
The Sikh Foundry I have are all in peaked forage caps and as far as I can see they look almost identical to the Perry pack "ISA52 BAL Running at trail". These do not either have the shoulder wings that the other centre and flank companies packs have (why not?), my Foundry lack these also. K
Knowing that there are no exact truth when it comes to the campaign dress of soldiers I am no uniform purist, so it seems that this could work. Would you know if the peak of the forage caps were removable? I see that some of the Perry miniatures have the peak and some not? Any definite "dont´s" to observe when pressing my Foundry into service?
