Tankers for Old West trains?
« on: January 27, 2010, 08:13:34 PM »
I just got my Goldlok Western Express train. It comes with a "Tanker" car. Is that historically accurate? If I have the tanker can I use this as a Civil War train as well?  It just seems a little "new-fangled," but I'm not really a railway history expert  ;)

Thanks

- Steve

Civil war era a wooden tank car is more likely than a steel one, but a steel tank car is essentially an engine boiler without all of the pipes and boxes so the change is in cost not technology. Loads would include water, kerosene, vinegar, molasses, etc.

Sounds slightly too late for the Civil War if it's iron, but good for later Old West games.

The tank is attached with two tabs. Take it off and convert it to a flat car.
