What standard track works with the Goldlok Western Express?
« on: January 30, 2010, 05:55:29 PM »
Ok, so the Toys R Us Goldlok Western Express only comes with 2 straight sections. Even if I were to buy another set there still wouldn't be enough of them. Has anyone figured out what gauge standard railroad track will work as a replacement?  Will O-Gauge work?  Doesn't have to be perfect, just wide enough to fit without looking ridiculously out of scale.

Thanks for the advice

- Steve

Answering my own question here. It looks like G-scale plastic is the answer and that it's available from various hobby stores.

U.S. O-gauge (1/48 scale).

That's strange because the plastic G-gauge looks exactly the same, but you're right I guess the G-gauge would be too wide, wouldn't it? Too bad as the plastic would be so much easier to paint.

I took a train car with me to a train store to find track that fit.  O-gauge (US). Most O-gauge track is 3-rail though, but if you look around, you'll find 2-rail.

Can't say I've ever heard of G-gauge.

Google for Bachmann, Aristo and Lehmann. It´s 45mm gauge and 1/22.5, 1/20.3 and 1/29 scale.

There's one set containing 2 extra straights, totalling 4. I bought that one and 2 others for a total of 8 straights, so I can play the 8 foot long LotOW train scenario. I also own about 200 to 300 Meters of 0-Gauge tracks, they would fit, but I think they are to expensive for wargaming, compared to the Toys R' Us sets.
Far less active than I used to...
