Looks like a grand idea to me.

How do the interior buildings interact with the rampart?

Yes, that does make sense now, I suppose that would be the quicker method of building a stockade and not having to worry about seiges to much either, just a bunch of angry natives  :)

Yes!   (Forts are good)

Silent, since your using 1p bases (which I assume are non ferrous) my magnet lined firing step/parapet trick is of no use.

What are you going to use for the stockade walls?

I'll be following this with keen interest. I've been interested in Fort Allen ever since I saw Franklin's sketch in Hunter's "Frontier Forts of Pennsylvania". It looks like you're off to a great start!

I stockpiled a load of suitable branches and saplings during my fall pruning for similar projects. Unfortunately I left mine in the garden and they are currently one frozen mass.  >:(

Good progress so far but I don't envy you cutting out those twigs. You must have a good 4' of palisade there  :)

Now then, here's a question. For the loop holes are you going to cut halfway through one twig and half way through the one next to it or are you going to chop a twig completely and stick the upper portion to it's neighbours?

It looks very good so far. I hope you don't have too much trouble pointing the top of the stockade with all of the bits in place.

I like the look of this, are you going to paint the wood or leave it as is?

Inspiring, the palisade looks great. A superb project. I really enjoy your wip threads. :)

Thanks chaps!  :)

@Aaron
I tried carving points with a knife (too fiddly) and a pencil sharpener (too destructive) so will be adding fairly blunt points using greenstuff.  I expect it to adhere as the posts have been sealed with superglue.  It'll still be a fiddly job but with the added advantage of leaving me with a soft point (rather than a hardened stake) which is less likely to scratch my minis (or me).  We shall know by this time tomorrow!  lol

Ah, makes a lot of sense to me. If I get around to doing mine in nice weather I'll likely carve the points on mine as it gives me an excuse to sit out in the garden and enjoy the view. Carving 300+ inside would probably be a bit messier than the wife would appreciate anyway. I suspect a scalping would seem mild compared to what she would do to me.  lol

Thanks M, am glad you enjoy.   :)

As it happens I put up the WIP threads for entirely selfish reasons - as peoples' comments and suggestions mean I get a better result!  ;)

 lol  lol

i must admit I wasnt convinced when I seen that big pile of sticks in an earlier photo, but its coming together very nicely :). One small detail you may want to consider changing from your original plan and that is with your gate the full width of one side of the 'bastion' you won't have any loop holes firing along that length of wall, which will lead to a blind spot if the attacker makes it to that section of wall. Vauban would not approve  ;)

....thinking about it, one solution would be to have loops in the doors to give flanking fire to the wall.
