"He's lead, Jim."
« on: February 08, 2010, 03:11:07 PM »
I just completed the main characters from Star Trek II (except Mr. Spock, he's  not finished yet).

These are the old FASA 25mm figures.  They are a challenge to paint, as they are significantly smaller than modern 28mm size figures.  I muddled through as best I could.

They are also uninteresting poses, but I think they are mostly identifiable as the characters.   There are alternate poses for each character, but those tend to be harder to find, as they were only sold in blister packs (these came in a boxed set).

Group shot:

Kirk:

Dr. McCoy:

Scotty:

"My poor engines, they canna take much more o' this, Cap'n!"

Chekov:  (I think this particular figure turned out the best)

Sulu:

You've really captured the look of the characters!

I could tell who each was, even without the label.

Nicely done.

Very well painted. It's a shame they are so small and in such static poses. They would have ben great to use with Matakishi's Not-Trek figures, or the Rim Aliens from Gary Mitchell  :(

Cool!  I like the way that the red turned out.

As you say, all very immediately recognisable.  The fold down "bib" part of the uniform puts them slap bang in the "KHAAAAN!" era  8)

I think that Bones in particular has that trademark cranky look.

Do you plan to game with them?  If so, what sytem will you be using?

I'm not crazy about the figures themselves, but you've really done an excellent job painting them... Facial detail is particularly nice and it really captures the character of the individual actors (not easy to do at that scale). Really good color treatments, too.

He's lead, Jim...  Thank the Lord he's not plastic on a sprue  ;)

These are really rather good.  Nice painting and I don't even mind the static poses.  Reminds me of a publicity still for the orginial series.   :)

I don't really know, but they were fun, and I've got a box of Klingons and Khan's followers to paint up too.

I would like to game with them at some point, but don't have a satisfactory set of rules.  I know there are several sets of skirmishy rules around that have a "Hero" and "Expendible Redshirt" structure that would probably work.

Someone's selling some Star Trek The Motion Picture 25mm figures from the late '70s on ebay:

Ooh! Klingons! Do them next, please. They are one of my all-time favourite alien races  ;D

As to rules, the 5150 set from Two Hour Wargames are very good and Nozza has done a Trek conversion for the phasers etc. The rules use a cinematic style structure where you play the heroes or villains and have loads of "expendable" extras either with or against you. Sound familiar?

All the stats are easy to customize, so you can easily portray you favourite wig-wearing overweight Canadian starship captain. Great for anything from solo to multi-player games.

Just been talking about these with a mate and said "bought some great Not-Trek figures from a certain Tea Room, where can I get an Enterprise shuttle?"

He is a massive Trek fan and has these figs - so, mighty black and white cat, you may soon get more orders!

Those are cool. Nicely done. They reminded me of re-make of the new Star Trek that my family and I watched this past weekend. Good movie as far as I was concerned. We all enjoyed it immensely.

Anyways...I was unaware that anyone had made figures for Star Trek. Your interpretation of them in your artisitc work does you credit Sir...Thanks for sharing.
