Well he was too busy giving orders and trying to look stern and aloof in that heavy greatcoat in the blistering heat, to bother with shooting at anyone himself. I believe it was a stray shot from one of his men that caused the armoured car crew to bail, so his unit did pay a pivotal role. While they still had the Roller, the allied players believed they had a chance. As soon as it was gone they gave up.
