Camera has obliterated some of the detail on the whites. Can't seem to get that right. Oh well. It'll do. More soon.

I thought the whites looked bloody marvellous - they must be pretty awesome in hand if they are obliterated.

Much niceness going on here. :-*

This one's my favourite. Really pleased how he turned out, a little more so than the others.

That one's my favorite, too.  He's a got a malicious look in his eye!  I often have trouble recognizing that a metal feature can be more than one color, for some reason.  As such, it never would have ocurred to me to paint that sash red and yellow.  Gotta get over that mental hump.

I have a little confession to make, I have such mental blocks too, and so am always on the lookout for places to pinch painting ideas from...

This particular fellow is a tribal chief from Scinde (or Sindh if you prefer the newfangled spellings) from the Osprey on India. I wonder if that's where Mark Copplestone got the idea for the sculpt? They are very similar.

Damn nice work  :-*  :-*  :-*

Got a load of Arabs myself, that I hope to paint up someday! If and when I get around to the task, does anybody know where I can pick up a model dhow, to transport em around in?

LAF forum member Bugsda used to make them and sell them on eBay, that's where I got mine. He may well still do so, I don't know as I haven't been looking for one.

You could ask him, if he's about.

You could make the Major General's Dhows from his patterns on his website, but use thin balsa instead of card, and heavily coat with watered down PVA, and acryllic paint for strength.

Sorry, mate. I use mostly GW because there is a shop just five miles away that sells it. I've never even seen a pot of Vallejo, let alone painted with it.

Chaos Black is just the standard black. Codex Grey is a sort of light-to-mid grey, and Badab Black is a wash that runs into all the recesses to create dark shadows for lazy painters like me.

Great painting - care to share what colours you used for the flesh? I can never seem to get it right on my arabs but your's looks superb.

I do it to, works a treat. Badab black had silly name but excellent formula. Red tinged rather than blue, makes for a warmer look.

Care to share what colours you used for the flesh?

Was just experimenting really. Wasn't sure how to go at it so improvised with what was in front of me. I think it was Coat d'Arms Negro (just a tiny bit) + GW Dark Flesh (bit of that) + GW Bronzed Flesh (mostly that). A wash of GW Devlan Mud and then highlights with the original three colours, just with more Bronzed Flesh each time.

I thought they looked fine to the eye, but once photographed I think the faces of a couple of them (the Sheikh and the guy with the yellow turban) are a little bland, not enough contrast, and could do with a layer or two of extra highlights. Still, no going back, just make a mental note for the next batch: Once I think I've done enough highlights: do another round of highlighting before I stop.  :)
