Suicide Cultist
« on: March 11, 2010, 02:01:33 AM »
Finished a Suicide Cultist from Uncle Mike's Strange Aeons lot tonight.

He will fit in nicely with the others....

Someone on these forums once said once you paint the eyes of a figure, it truely comes to life.  I have found that so true.  The first thing I always paint on a miniature (aside from the priming colors) are the eyes.  This mini was fun to paint once I finished that wide-eyed "crazy-eyed" look on his face.

He looks like he could go off any second.

So far as my opinion goes, I completely concur. The first thing I saw was those flickering pearls of wanton destruction. They really do enforce the fact that this guy could get you with the simple act of pushing a button.

I still cannot figure out what colour the robes of my own cultists should be. An overly nosey sibling already pointed out how "not nice" they look in bare resin next to the rest of my 'primed for painting' cupboard...

I always start with the face and eyes too.  It kind of brings the figure to life; once I know what sort of character they are, I get a better idea of how to paint them.  Of course, one would hope a suicide cultist was a raving maniac.  Kind of awkward if you get the eyes done and he seems like a kind, grandfatherly sort.

That could be the one that always makes you fail to roll on blowing him up.

I do all my robes cultists in purple with pink highlights.

It's dark but still somewhat eye catching.  Also, it's about the only thing I get to use the color purple for.

Here are my thoughts on other robe colors...
White Robes look too Klu Klux Klan
Black Robes to dull and uninspiring - drab ole satanists
Green Robes - I've got too many green skinned monsters anyway.
Blue Robes - Cult of the Blue Water ?  Please...
Red Robes - Maybe alright...but I save red for blood.
Yellow Robes - Maybe The color of Hastur and Madness

Great paintjob! I really like the purple colour. Purple is awesome for cultists...a mysterious and evil colour 8). I also like you did his eyes in a insane way, which fits the character well.
