Tried my hands on some putty-pushing...
« on: May 25, 2007, 04:34:52 PM »
Last weekend, I found myself in a situation which left me with absolutely nothing to do, but couldn't be escaped (don't ask). Fortunately, I packed a bit of stuff and so was at least able to do something productive. Having watched the Silent Hill movie recently, I decided to do some of those people in masks and rubber suits.

Here is the result:

Not counting a 54 mm thing for Inquisitor some five years back, this is the first miniature I sculpted. I found I somehow liked it, and did some more over the week.

Number 2:

And Number 3:

Still very much work in progress, and far from anything I would want to have produced. But I think I learned a lot, and will continue to make more, until I eventually feel competent enough to sculpt hands on these

Great starts for the first time. The last one has definite possibilities with a little work. They look suitably creepy (for some reason they remind me of the Dr. Who episode where all the people have the gas mask fused to their face.)

good start! the second one looks quite rough but the first and third one aren't bad at all. And the legs of the first one need some touching up.

Would like to see them finished one day. And look forward to see more of your sculpts, that's a very promising start!

Very nice, great sense of movement on the last one. I like the masks too. :)

Much better than I could manage.
Thought the stance on no 3 was the best one.

Thanks, all  :)

The third one is my personal favorite as well. I did some more work on him, but nothing which would justify a picture. Mainly some touch-ups on the belt and a back for the mask (which I don't really like). Then I tried to do a fist three times and scrapped it. Maybe I'll try again tonight, but right now I need a break.

This saddens me. I'd have bought them.

They're perfect for horror and post-apocalyptic settings, but personally I think I'd have used them as a youth subculture gang in cyberpunk.

Did the hands on No. 3:

Man, I made people in masks so that I wouldn't have to sculpt faces, and now it turns out hands are even worse!

Hands are a bit on the big side, but at least they have identifiable fingers. And he has a big kitchen knife, so don't argue   Now I am thinking of adding a folded back hood, a few pouches and probably some sort of instrument on the belt.

Rhoderic, I might make a few resin casts of them (or at least No. 2 and 3), just to see how they turn out. If I do, I'll let you know. But they need a lot of work still.

Now back to No. 2. I removed his head and cut away most of his back to get rid of the grainy texture Prof mentioned (the Greenstuff I have left is a bit old and lumpy and aarrrgh to work with)...

I like how he's turning out. Great menacing positioning. There is something just a little creepy about him.

Redid the head on No. 2 yesterday, much better I think:

The suit still needs some smoothing, though.

Not until he's painted (probably not even then). Unless you suppose he has just slaughtered some Cthulhuian abomination which bleeds green, in which case he has done a rather exhaustive job

ARGH ... now I have that little boy in my head again ... "Are you my mommy?" :D

Anyways ... great sculpts. As I have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever about sculpting ... what's the material you use for it? That stuff commonly known as greenstuff? Or something different?

They're great!  I would absolutely buy them if they were available.
