I'm gonna play Deadlands
« on: March 16, 2010, 07:38:29 PM »
Well I will be playing soon and have decided to go for the first A Fistful of Ghost Rock as I haven't got time to plan anything myself.

Has anyone played the game?
Will it be fun or should I look elsewhere?

Not actually got around to readin or running that one yet. You intending this to be a one off or the start of an ongoing campaign?

If it's a one off and you don't mind killing characters then Night Train is very good. Sets the feel brilliantly and can certainly be a challenge to starting characters.

It can be the start of a campaign too. Either give the players pre-gens or get them to do quick characters, then throw them into Night Train. When the dust/blood settles they can either keep any surviving characters (although I'd let them make changes) or create new ones from the towns survivors. They then have a feel for the game before getting stuck into their characters too.
So many projects..... so little time.......

I havent played the scenario s but played the game quite a bit and should have played last week but had a bug :(

What I Have done however is use some of the stats pre set in the scenario and stole a little of the idea fomr Night Train though did it as an undead confederate train that lawmen had to cleanse

Opps I meant the GRW skirmish only.

I've played nigh train and Liked it, the first dime novel was good too. Other than those I played mostly home written one-off scenarios but my rpg days are over (for now)

Fair enough. I still think night train is a usable scenario :) Depends if you have enough vamps though. Although as Karl pointed out, it's easy to switch out the bad guys.

Funnily enough I have been picking up some of the novels and got the good the bad and the dead or something along those lines and there is a nice little short story about 2 texas rangers chasing one of the trains and they clear out the town the train has visited then follow the train to the next where they beleive it is coming only to find it is a herd of demonic ghostly Steers on a stampede which turn out to be the spirits of Texas rnagers lost in the desert ;D

It is a weird west, think steampunk meets horror gaming Deadlands is the setting with lots of background linked strongly to RPG, Railwars is the miniatures battle game
