How to paint Red Indian skin?
« on: May 27, 2007, 08:23:32 AM »
Hi guys,
After taking a break from painting last week, I'm now ready to continue my US cavalry project.  Next up is an Indian scout and I just don't know how to get the skin tone right.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Funny, I started painting some Crow yesterday and had the same problem. I tried Foundry 38A Scarlet as base and used 53A Chestnut as main colour. This gives a dark tone, you might use the whole 53 chestnut range for a lighter tone.

Dominic, I got a tip from my friend Joe Moore in the States. He washes the figures with GW Flesh Wash ink over a white undercoat. I've seen it on his figures and it looks really good. I've tried it on seven Redoubt FIW Indian figures and it looks very acceptable to me - quick too! {I've not got any pictures, but I used the same technique on the body of my Scorpion King conversion, so you can get an idea from that.}

There are some packs or poses painted. I like to consider myself a decent expert on Native skin :wink:

Oh, and Tom painted some as well...
