Car Comparison
« on: March 29, 2010, 12:18:34 PM »
I was out at WalMart making a quick pick up of a plastic container when I decided to hit the toy aisle and look for some cars. These have been shown before, but I wanted to post some size comparisons with figures and show the packaging as well for anyone looking to get them.

This is a Disney/Pixar Police car from the Cars movie and a Jada Battle Machines 57 Chevy.

And here they are, both out of the package and with a cop and President for Life Nixon standing next to them.

Now, the Jada could be used right out of the package which is cool (even if it is a bit smaller than what it should be), the Cop car will need to be repainted, but both are good enough to be used in the game.

I'm a bit mixed about vehicle scales... I got some 1:43 scale ones, which look massive, but when I see contemporary photos the cars back then were massive.

For me it's more about height. I don't want the figures to be standing behind the hood of the car and be nearly unseen from the other side.

There are no perfect cars right now, but hopefully someone will get something out.

Scale can be an issue. I have a Tucker Torpedo that I love. It just looks a little heroic with figures. Then again I can remember sitting in my brother's Buick Globemaster when I was a kid and couldn't see over the window sill.

The scale of cars is allways a problem .
For many people 1:50 is the right scale ,for others it is  1:??  ,for me personal it is the comparison with the figures I wish to use .

I like it a bit smaller on the table and if you have a look , most tables have  buildings wich are smaller too .
So why should the cars have the realistic size ,they look silly with non realistic buildings ?

I think these view is a thing from the parst of my wargaming live. Remember the first space marine rhino from GW ,I never belive how the tank can store 10 Space .

So that is what I have in mind when I looking for new cars
1. how dos the figures look near your car ?
2.how dos the car look near your buildings ?
3.how easy and cheap you can get the cars ?
4.take a figure with you for comparison

and here are a few more car comparison for AC57

Doc Hutson from Disny cars

from Disny cars

disny cars , matchbox MC donald car ,disny cars

I will make a picture of my jada cars soon

agree
I guess the ranking for me would be rather 3-4-1-2   :D
but basically Your approach covers my view

and besides, what use are realistic scale cars if the miniatures are not true scale....

Thanks for the photo comparison.  Every now and then I check out the matchbox and hotwheels for my 20mm figures, but I always avoided the Disney Cars section, thought they looked too goofy.  With a new coat of paint they are quite serviceable for the 28mm scale.

Personally I just go for consistency across vehicles. I've got 1:43 vehicles, so I'll stick to that. If all the cars are big then no problem, likewise if you prefer smaller scale models. At the end of it, it's a '50's vehicle as opposed to a '70's or modern one. Given that most figures are based, the extra few mm means I'll likely get away with it.

You know, for the past month I've swung by the toy car aisle every time I've gone to Wal-Mart. These two brands in particular, and some model of Matchbox, have all caught my eye. Still haven't been able to bring myself into buying any. This helps me out quite a bit. Thank you.

I apologise for the image quality and lack of paint on the figures... but should serve as a comparison. Figures are by the old grenadier by EM4, if that helps. Cars are all supposed to be 1/43

'56 Ford Fairlane by Roadchamps.

'57 Chevy Belair by Del Prado.

Sorry if you struggle to see the car in that pic.

Chevy pick-up by Cararama.

I thought it was a bit big.... but...

I think you can get away with a lot of supposed 1/43 cars out there. Walk around with a figure in your pocket - you never know what you'll spot where! :)
