BTW - there is an excellent memoir by John Masters called "The Road to Mandalay".  It recounts his experiences first as Brigade Major, then Brigade Commander of a Chindit Brigade.  After extraction, he is appointed Divisional second in command to a regular Army unit for the 1944 invasion of Burma.

Very well written, and captures very nicely the flavour of the period.

Dom, I didn't find the book on Amazon :(

Oops, my fault...the title should be "The Road Past Mandalay"

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Road-Mandalay-Cassell-Military-Paperbacks/dp/0304361577/ref=sr_1_1/026-5400345-0811632?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1181198957&sr=8-1

The Road Past Mandalay is actually part 2 of his memoirs.  Part one is also quite interesting and covers his training at Sandhurst, his experiences as a Gurkha officer, and his first taste of combat against Afghan insurgents (Waziris and Pathans) in the NW Frontier:

finally some new stuff to Burma! Sherman's and Half-track, very nice ones and nicely painted, too. I didn't think I shall repaint them

Big tankies rule! Big tankies rule!

Very nice. You just might wish to re-name one of the Shermans, though... ;) and maybe add some very light shading?

I have some of their shermans and 1/2 tracks for Normandy, an oil wash with raw umber adds depth (or ink etc) to the paint.

One tip dont try to fix the tracks, I did once and the super glue (d`oh) corroded the rubber

I know there is a marketplace for offering goods, but this is exactly matching this topic, so:

I'm selling a Time-Life book from the World War II series titled "China-Burma-India". Hardcover, the traditional Time-Life style of book with 200+ pages and hundreds of photos and so called picture essays, maps and illustrations. 15,- EUR is my price. Anybody interested please send me a pm.

More titles from this series in the Bazar of Obscurities ...

I recently bought a couple of 1.48 Tamiya M4 Shermans and a Hobbyboss M4A1 76mm from traders on ebay, saving half the shop price on the Tamiya kits.

They're really nice models with die cast hulls to add weight. Next to the Corgi 1/50 Sherman and M3 Half tracks I also bought, they should look compatible.

They have the advantage that they can be built up as a unit. I've bought some decals for a Sherman platoon from Company B so I'll be using them instead of the kit decals. I'm using them as armoured support for my Artizan US armoured infantry platoon.

When they're done I'll post some photos.

Tamaya tank kits are crazy expensive though. I suspect it is the die-cast hull which jacks up the price to a level where a 1/48 kit costs as much as a 1/35 kit.

I am no panzer wargamer, I use them mostly for props so I am not willing to pay that much for them.
