Behold... The Corpse!!
« on: June 05, 2007, 08:49:12 PM »
Hi all

Here are pictures of the Pulp Figures weird villain I recentely painted to use as hero in my Pulp games with .45A rules.

After the pics, I'll tell you the background history of this nice gentleman, and the stats I propose for him. As many Lead Adventurers have played .45A, I'd appreciate any comments in his list of abilities.

Regarding his story, I haven't tried to be reeeeally original. After all, he is a pulp hero and this is a game!

The Corpse

The Corpse is the alias of the Vigilante of Newpulp City. Dressed as a living corpse, he is feared by villains all around the country.

His real name is John C. Scott. He served with the allied forces in France during the last years of the Great War, and there, in Flanders, he witnessed the horror caused by the experiments of a insane surgeon from Boston called Herbert West. The whole files of West's activities were destroyed during a German shell-fire, and Scott was one of the few survivors to know about the West's reanimation activities and the panic they caused among men.

Scott returned home after the war and there he found that the world he fought to save from tiranny and chaos was still in danger from forces located deep inside the society... Gangsters, scientists gone mad, dark evil from the far east, cultists of unspeakable lore, foreign agents... He couldn't allow innocent people to suffer under those menaces, and so he started his career as The Corpse.

Remembering the effects witnessed in Flanders, he disguised himself as a living corpse, wearing dark, weathered robes; and a death mask. The robes kept well hidden a piece of body armor, and the death mask was a reinforced steel one, providing him good armor against bullets and blades and creating the illusion that he was immortal as he was already dead. Several small red paint flasks were hidden inside the armor to create the effect of bleeding when shot, thus enhancing the illusion of living death for those who deserved his justice. A pair of white gloves completed the disguise. It was told that the Corpse wears a can of worms inside the robes, used in certain ocassions as a identity card, to warn his enemies about his presence.

The Corpse is a experienced marksman, whose abilities were well-earned in the Great War. He wears an automatic pistol carrying special ammo that deals extra damage to his foes. He is also expert of hiding in the shadows and dark corners of the city, bringing fear and panic into the hearts of the villains.

The Corpse has some partners who normally remain anonymous. One well known associate is Dr. Klaus Schneider. German immigrant to the USA after the war and inventor, who provides the Corpse with gadgets and devices when needed, to accomplish his goals.

The main enemy of The Corpse is the Crimson Brotherhood: a sect of hooded agents whose activities cover almost all known illegal activities, but whose ultimate goal is still unknown.

I really like that back story! That is excellent. Very evocative of the genre.

And I agree with changing Intimidate to Cause Fear (make it Cause Fear Grade 2). That makes it one higher than normal, so you could allow him to be played that way, or give him a Virtue to compensate.

Giving "Cause Fear (2)" should need to take out an ability from him, isn't it?

That's what I was saying (but you were mroe clear about it).  :)

You could give him a virtue to compensate or just let it go and chalk it up to his "experience."

That's a fantastic paint job and I love the backstory of the character, especially the way you worked in the Lovecraftian theme.

Thanks! I'm a zombie-fan, and given that I have a hero pretending to be a living corpse, I needed a reason for that. I remembered the story "The Horror from the Shadows", and I used that as clue for true Lead Adventurers ...
