70's Modern UK Buildings in 28mm?
« on: June 10, 2007, 02:25:50 PM »
Just wondering if anyone knows a good source of 28mm scale UK modern buildings? When I say Modern I mean 70's rather than Ultra Modern.
All my usual sources are " Americanised"  ( Worldworks, Bachmann etc) and most Brit Railway stuff is either Rural Village or the wrong scale ( normally HO).
I'm thinking of getting the Pro-Fantasy Diorama programme to create my own card buildings but it works out quite expensive. Another thought is totally scratchbuilding everything.
Any ideas?

Make them yourself and then tell us how you did it

What setting are you looking at? Town, city, housing estate?

I'm probably looking more at a town than a major city, although I like the idea of a housing estate.

Whilst looking through the net I found some very reasonably priced buildings by "SuperQuick" and "Metcalfe". They tend to be OO scale but an unsrupulous individual with a scanner might be able to re-size them to 28mm!

Metcalf also do a few O scale models aswell.

The terraced house backs look cool for some Shaun of The Dead action!

And of course I will share any results!!!!

Haven't found any specific 70s buildings about, but Magister Militum or Coritani (can't remember which but I think it was MM) have (or had last year) some foam terraced housing, only half buildings, but they come as a complete street and handy for a table edge.

Fiddlers Green are quite good for card buildings, but apart from a few industrial ones a bit limited for UK based games.

They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

Mr TadPortly you are a Star! 8)
Some really nice links there, especially the urban furniture and the building .pdf files!
Excellent, I will order some of the .pdf files now and have a stab at re-sizing.

I think it wouldn't be that difficult to build nice houses. But I still don't know how to do the fences and stairs to the basement you can see at a lot of houses.

"I'd like to send this letter to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aeromail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?"
"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

There are plenty of photo ethched kits out there for doll houses and model railways.

I have a do-it-at home photoetch kit for this kind of things.

Those Scalescene PDF downloads look great - terraced street and factory could be very handy for "Life on Mars" - although I'm wondering if they might serve as a backdrop for Blue Moon manufacturing's Jack the Ripper range, or Dr Who...

I was also thinking of things like the siege of Sydney Street, or even the "Talons of Weng Chiang" too.

All that seems to be missing is a typical pub or perhaps some seedy looking shops. Shouldn't be too difficult to convert one of the terraced houses though.

Thanks LTD, I've spotted those from On Tracks ( on my to get list).
I've got the PDF files from Scalescene and they shouldn't take too much effort Re-sizing them ( the road set is very nice aswell!)
I'll let you know how I get on.

Pappa -
I've just had an email from John Wiffen about his PDF buildings, he says  rescaling to 126% should work with 28mm, depends on if you have an A3 printer of if it supports tiling.

He expressed an interest in putting out some wargames buildings in the future - he was inspired by the western range produced by Whitewash City - so it might be worth emailing him with any suggestions.
