plastic romans - do WG and WF fit togeher?
« on: May 04, 2010, 05:55:23 PM »
I've tried to search for this topic, but apparently this hasn't been approached before.

So, did anyone yet try to combine the Warlord Game plastic ancients with those from Wargames Factory?

I would be curious to know, because I was thinking of upgrading the WF cavalry with parts from WG

Depending on how much mixing you want to do, it could take a lot of work. Some of the connection points, like head to torso are completely different.  There are also some size differences that may come into play.

I don't have the WG Romans, but I do have their Celts.  I'm betting they assemble the same.  I also have the WF Romans (and Celt Cavalry).

If you're just thinking of using WG torso, head and arms on the WF riding legs, it might be do-able, but I'd expect complications.
All my best ideas are someone elses

thx

craft knife and glue are not a problem, I've done worse "complications".
I am concerned with the proportions of heads and arms.

would You possibly have a close WG and WF comparison shot, please?

gods, this was hard work!

here, two WG auxiliaries with a WF cavalry inbetween
they seem to match up very well, and are also reported to match with Founrdy perry romans as well

and here the celts from both companies

Yeah, the Warlord figs were designed to fit with the Foundry range.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Oooh, look at her handbag! Although to be fair, I don't like them either, you just don't like plastic though  ;)

sorry, I don't understand  :(

as Dewbakuk says, it is plastic
and meant to be a cheap alternative

I would still like to see comparisons of the legionaries from both companies

It's an old saying. Essentially he's saying you're trying to make something great from two rubbish products (ie can't be done).

Can't help on the comparison sorry. I only had some of the WG ones and gave them away.

thx

learned something again :)

OK, it is not about collecting the best looking roman miniatures available. I have seen some in lead that really took my breath away.
This idea is about:
making it cheap
and giving the possibility of easy conversion on a large scale - why so?
The current roman soldiers interpreted by sculptors and reeanactors alike give a too "regular" look to the roman armies (for my taste), that also largely simplyfies and sometimes contradicts the archaeological record (to my scholarly knowledge). I often felt withheld by this aspect when I toyed with collecting a roman army, no matter how well the miniatures are sculpted. I thought that with the new piles of plastic I could give it a go. I have seen the first republican legionaries by WF and I will largely ommit these, but all the others seem quite useful.
Especially if Celts, Germans and Numidians are used to "deregulate" the uniformity.
