I think considering the whole thing recently about Space Marines, Amazon, Games Workshop and an a previously unknown book 'Spots space marine'; I think a theme around 'space marines' ought to feature reclaiming the term for the good of the whole community not just a 'little' niche of it ;) It could then include VSF, retro sci-fi, Aliens, Starship Troopers, etc.

I like it! Wargames revisionism.
I told you so. You damned fools.

Since we all tell stories with our painting, what about a theme based upon open-ended writer's prompts:

"I thought it was going so well, and then..."
"He just knew he was going to make it this time"
"It was then they knew they really weren't in Kansas anymore"

or perhaps just a simple:

"Oops"

That's a very nice, creative idea  :)
Definitely worth considering - although it might be a bit subjective as to whether someone's entry does or does not meet the opening of the story!  ;)

An idea is "the world today"

the entry should be from anywhere in our world during the year 2013.

life is a journey.
It how you tavel on that journey, that matters.

I'd like to see an "Iron Chef" round. That is, where to get bonus points, everyone takes a pic of their unpainted minis in front of some visual proof of them being unpainted at the start of the round. Then, you only have the one week to complete painting and basing/staging/photography. For an added challenge, include a "secret ingredient"--a color that should be featured in all the figs.

I favor the Civilians theme and particularly the women and children theme. Also Asian would be fun with some sort of emphasis on Samurai and Geisha. And maybe do that one as a tribute to Kurosawa's films.  I would also like to see a tribute to Lawrence of Arabia and maybe Zulu Wars.

Another suggestion might be anthropomorphic animals. Silly I know, but it could be fun.

Civilian was done not LPL5 wasn't it. But it is a good theme and could very well be repeated.

So, I see that Season 7 entries have been archived. Does this mean we can hope for a Season 8?  :)

A few ideas... (I acknowledge there's some overlap with these and the listed ones so consider them as alternative definitions around the same main concept.)

  • Other geographic areas: North/South America, Middle/Far East, polar, tropics, barren lands, mountains...
  • Steam, combustion
  • Superweapons
  • Explorers, settlers, pioneers
  • Industry
  • Jules Verne
  • Siege
  • (Classic) D&D adventurers and creatures
  • Entertainment
  • Elite troops, royal guard
  • I lost control on Kickstarter
  • National epics, stories, legends, myths
  • My favourite small (~one-man) company
  • Totally surreal
  • Quantity over quality
  • Underdogs, against the odds
  • Evil mastermind & worthless minions, "take on the world" (vs. heroes thwarting them)
  • Pirates, rogues, highwaymen, crooks (vs. appropriate law enforcement)
  • Garish

Alright, that's enough for now. :)
