Non GW beastmen minatures
« on: May 08, 2010, 12:47:01 PM »
Does any one know who would make suitable beastmenesq miniatures for use with a WFB beast men army, I am particularly interested in Minotaurs, and centaurs, that could be converted, but anything even vaguely similar would be great.

Cheers all!
Saving the last bullet... just in case.

Mega Miniatures have some very nice Bob Olley sculpted Beastmen.

I think Essex Miniatures have some too.

Otherworld Miniatures has three centaurs and a realistic minotaur:

And Heresy has these:

Then you have Scibor Miniatures' minotaurs, Avatars of War has another and there are many more out there.

I'd been waiting for the Crocodile Games minotaurs but now I'm looking at them painted in their store I'm not so sure about them - I may still get them though. I have a very specific idea of how minotaurs should look and although we're spoilt for choice on minotaur minis from a host of manufacturers there isn't really one which hits the nail on the head for me. I think I prefer the overall design of the Scibor and Avatar's of War minotaurs but they have hooves!

I think they should have human feet, not hooves - I can think of maybe two or three manufacturers who produce them with humanoid feet including the newly released Crocodile Games ones, most designers seem to prefer hooves, even in 2d art or video game models hooves appear to be the standard.
Bodywise I think they should have a stocky, muscular build, perhaps with a bit of a belly.
Also they need a head and horns which are proportionate  - many minotaur miniatures seem to have heads and/or horns which are way to large or small. It also seems to be quite a skill to get the horns to look right in such a way that they appear to be growing out of the skull rather than just stuck on.
Weird looking faces or overall cartooniness also seems to be a common problem. I'm not too bothered about oversized weapons as these can always be swapped out.

I like the first wargods minotaur with flail, but the other minotaur, with the axe, looks like his head is too big.

I love the Heresy Minotaur!

That is a must have for me, exactly as I want a minotaur to be.

On closer inspection I agree with you, its the axe guy who bothers me, the flail one is spot on. I think I'll be getting him at some point.

Edit: Actually it may just be the angle on the official pics, found these on the Crocodile Games forums and they show a few other angles and show the axe guy side-by-side with the flail guy:

Slight off topic but are there any mutant figs out there similar to the old citadel chaos thugs?

And isn't this a brilliant Beastman character?

That's the Satyr from Hordes by privateer press.
