Well normally modesty would forbid, but I would say that the Hessian army led by me won the day, I launched all my right flank heavy cavalry against the aFrench left wing, and in a series of bloody melees, broke it, this started a rout which infected the infantry and the whole French left flank crumbled. Following that I launched the Hessian infantry at the centre and the French, being intimidated wisely withdrew. The French had some success on my left flank, causing a lot of pain to the small cavalry force I had there with their light cavalry, but once I was able to bring massed infantry musketry to bear on them, they decided discretion was the better part of valour.
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious!!

Is n't it a bit sad, though, to have all that talent to make such super figures and then not want to share them with other people. Can't help but feel your friend is missing out on a greater pleasure he'd get from sharing with others his obviously prodigious talent. But, as you say, his choice.... :'(

I think it all stems from previous bad experiences, and I mean really bad. So whilst I agree its a loss to wargaming in general, I do agree with his reasons.

It can get fraught when passion and commerce unsuccessfully intermingle.

Very impressive.

Tell me (I have never taken part in a gamer as grand as this) how long did it take to play?

It was a day happily spent, we started at 11.00 and concluded by 17.00
