Subway Platform build (SMALL UPDATE - 9/18/10)
« on: May 17, 2010, 07:31:41 PM »
Here's the beginning of the underground subway station I'm working on for some pulp gaming.  I'm not sure if it too big a representation.  The minis look tiny in there but might look better when I add some benches and trash cans and stuff.  Is the track too small or is the trench(?) too big.  Basically I want lots of pillars for models to hide and shoot from and rails to leap across.  Mind the gap...and the bullets.

I'm in a large urban subway station daily and this looks right on as far as your proportions go. Man, that will be a fun game!

Looks great.  You'll have a subway car, with doors, open, on the tracks, right?  And I see advertising posters on the walls.

Thanks for the comments guys. It was looking off to me but sometimes you need another set of eyes.

Probably no car at this point for the game I have planned but it would look cool.  Yes, I plan to have posters as well as signs pointing
up to the streets.

Yes, the whole board will constantly flicker with a sickening washed out hue with "bzzzt, bzzzzzzt" sound effects or we'll just play in my basement.   ;D

Coming along nicely but I think your trench is too wide.  If you take a look at the attached pics, you can see that it is barely wider than the car itself.  You can see the third rail is almost directly under the far edge of the car (silver train) with probably less than a two-foot gap between it and the wall.  The 'Red Rocket' shows it from the other side in an open-air station.  The empty station pic was taken in the Toronto 'ghost' station, now used mainly for movie shoots.  Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy) shot Mimic there.  Notice, there are no ties under the rails in the stations, either, only 'fishplates' on concrete.

Yes, I was planning on adding some diamond plate along the edge as in the top picture and what I might do is have it come out a bit to take up some space.  You can see in the second picture there is a bit of space underneath the platform.  In fact I believe there was a story a year or two ago where someone had fallen on the tracks and someone had jumped down and dragged them aside before the train got them.  It would be nice for the models to have someplace to dive into should they find themselves on the tracks.  Like that would ever happen, bwuhahaaaaahaahhahaaaaaaa.  Thanks for the pics.

There is a recess under the near edge of the platform that's just wide enough to crouch under in an emergency.  Wouldn't want to be be carrying any excess weight, though, if you did find yourself down there!
