So anyone know where one can find mid to late 19th century Austrian figures?  :D

I suppose I could just use fellows in pith helmets but that wouldn't be any fun would it? What's the point of Austrians without flashy hussar and uhlan regiments?  ;)

There are a couple of ranges of 1859 Franco-Austrian figures available. Maybe too early for your needs. Also Renegade do some 1914 figures, but these might be too late for your needs  :(

Maybe you could use German colonial types and customize the uniforms into something more "Austrian"? Maybe substitute white for the Germans' grey/khaki? Give them red facings and piping etc and a few national flags and you might just get away with it  :)

I have a squad of the Eureka Austrians in my lead pile, waiting to be reborn in Dutch colours. Beautiful minis, highly recommended.

Those cossacks are great! What are they riding?

Also what nation is that with the parrotmen, those are very convincing conversions.

Utterly brilliant stuff and very inspiring. Adding to favourites (you should see the 'cool VSF stuff' links in my favourites!!!  lol)

Yep... the cossacks seem to always steal the show.   lol

But in this case, I think you have outdone yourself with the kroot!   :-*

The Cossacks are riding these:

Riders themselves are Redoubt, from their Victoriana range.

Those are my Dutch Parrotmen. :) Loyal soldiers of the King and fierce Calvinists. The Dutch missionaries did wonders on Venus.  ;)

Thank you! They were fun to make and paint. They are a Frankenstein's quilt of GW Kroot and Perry plastic Napoleonic rifflemen.  I will post better pics soon. I am thinking about a mounted unit on Mage Knight Warbirds, but that will have to wait until after the Panther Panzers....

I have another three or four painted units that have been finished since the game and will start a thread once I get some decent photographs.

Looks like a lot of fun.

Nice to see the Steam Tinkers in action.

Those look like they would be perfect mounts.

I might have to start making my own Parrotmen sometime.  :)

Thanks for the kind words Lads!! The rules are quick and simple,  based around and highly modified Space 1889 Soldiers Companion and some similar stuff from Dangerous Dan Hutter.

If James had not fallen asleep the British/Indian reinforcements could have arrived to save the day!!!!

As it was Sterling Mooses' Russians had a distinct tactical advantage by the time we had to call it quits.  On a historical note??? His Cossak Spiders have died to the last man in EVERY game I have hosted.  The Russin Steam Tinkers were all shot to bits by the British Naval Brigade. (Apart from the two that broke down). Those Stoic Russian infantry just kept on advancing dispite horrible losses. Well fought Moose!

I was a bit hesitant to allow off world colonial troops on the board but the Parrotmen were just too pretty to resist.

I think everyone who played had a goodtime. We were all having a good chuckle about the sleeping British/Indian General as well!
Shit Keith ... Not another stinkin air war game!!!!!

The mechanical riding Cossacks look scarier than they are to be honest.

I knew I'd be bagged so my troops didn't even make it onto the troopship!

I blame the rules!!   :D

Seriously though, they epitomise my view of the VSF world.  Kooky looking steam things that perform poorly, are constantly prone to breaking down and really only serve as bullet magnets to every enemy soldier on the board.

It's the flesh and blood troops that carry the day every time.

Long live the Tsar!!
