Colonial Marines and Halo Marines
« on: June 22, 2010, 08:59:15 PM »
Inspired by many of the folks here, I just bought a bunch of the E-4 Troopers.

They are seemingly perfect for an Aliens Colonial Marines set, which I've had in mind.  But, I was thinking I'd also like to build a squad of Halo inspired marines as well.  So, why not pull double duty?

I'm not so concerned that the equipment and such is identical, but just as long as the 'feel' of them seems valid.

So, other than the camo, and the weaponry, what makes one each one different? It seems they could pull off both looks pretty well.

Colonial Marines

HALO

I can't seem to come up with the iconic differences.  I know they're my toys and I can do whatever I'd like  ;D

Ultimately, I'd like a Colonial Marines/Master Chief battle against aliens using Space Hulk....

There are a few differences in armour (mainly helmets) and ODST and Spartans obviously take a bit more planning. Have a look at a some of Kev white's latest sci-fi minis too, they will fit into both well.

Good luck mate.

You should really look at the Pig Iron System Troopers for Master Chiefs...

Check out Denizen Miniatures Mid-Tech troopers and Ground Zero Games New Israelis. If those aren't Colonial Marines and Halo Marines under another name, I've missed something. Both are 25mm not "28" but superb for all that. The New Israelis are also available in 15mm and 6mm from GZG. As to combat comparisons, Halo Marines are at least one grade better in  body armour and weaponry than Colonial Marines. The Spartan suit is fully enclosed giving better protection against attack and environment and probably enhanced sensors and comms. It wouldn't be a fair contest one to one.

Thanks Gothique!

I'm becoming very interested in 6mm lately as well.  I appreciate the input.

Glad to be of service. BTW Dark Star Miniatures (link on Denizen website) used to produce Mid-Techs in 6mm and a powersuited version called Federation Space Troops are available from both Denizen and Dark Star.

Well although I take your point onboard matey, but the USCM (colonial marines) and UNSC (halo marines) are pretty well matched point for point.

Ok so halo gives the marines captured covenant weapons but if you take a look in say the colonial marines technical manual, you'll see weapons not seen in Aliens, like the M5 bounding mine, M78 Phased Plasma infanty gun, M83A2 SADAR, M5 RPG,M42a SCope rifle and M240 flamerthrowers. So weapon for weapon and on balance going to be very similar. Spartans and ODST's are another level all together, (ODST's and spartans (or rather the solo spartans) are elite and uber elite respectively are, as said another level + entirely.

Anyway, enough beardy comments, don't forget critical mass for 15mm pseudo halo loveliness (arc fleet):

Arc fleet light recon: (ODST's really).

Arc fleet heavy drop troopers: (spartans).

Holy crap...those are dead on for Spartans and ODST.

Does anyone make 'halo-esque' vehicles in that scale?

Although, ideally I think I'd like to make a Halo Wars type scene with 6mm...I'll have to go with what's available..
