Let us take a moment to examine that 'wedding' picture.  We have a nun escorting children, a priest, and a few apparently peaceable locals going about their daily business.  And then we have a 'passle' (that's an authentic western term of measurement that means 'a whole bunch') of cattle moseying (another westernism) down the town street.  Not only do none of the townsfolk seem much impressed but the bovines seem quite content to stay in their grouping without any discernible control by a cowpunch (yet another old west bit of lexiconography).  And then, and the impetus to my previous post, all those cattle are parading down the road without leaving a single road apple behind them (my font runneth over of cattle related argo).  That is just not the way it was!   :D

Or, if you prefer, you can focus on the other element of the photo - and others within the thread - that might be properly termed wargameography.   ;D

And some people would be gathering those "road apples" to dry out and use as fuel for their fires/stoves etc.

"Hmmmm.....what do you call the fellow riding the horse with a lasso then???"

Invisible in the photograph being pilloried, um, I mean parodied.  ;)

Hey, wait a minute, I looked again and, sure enough, there is a a man mixed up in the herd that is "camouflaged" so well that he is all but invisible.  At least on my screen.  His paint job coloring blended so well with the cattle I completely missed he was there!

Hold on, are you trying to distract us from the lack of "road apples"?   lol

Curious 'fact' that roams around the back of my brain: During a horse stampede, if you stand stock still, it is likely the horses will go around you; during a cattle stampede, it is likely you will get trampled - rather severely if not to death.  Not sure of the veracity but I 'remember' that from many a year ago, like 40 or 50 of them (years).  Probably from some western I watched in my youth.

Not sure I’d want to stand there to test the theory fella!

Next time I model for VC, I will try and remember to pay homage to your “road apples”.

Moving away from Manchester means I don’t get to play this anymore, at least not until my old gaming pals come visit.

But there is a possibility of new gaming opportunities here in South Warwickshire so I am tempted to do a few bits that got put on the back burner a while back.

Don’t expect overnight results but as well as gathering a few more civilians, the two things I wish I had done were the hacienda and briefly considered “McDaffy’s”, VC’s first (and I suspect, history’s first!) drive through!

The hacienda got shelved at a bad personal time but on reflection, the plans I had were too grandiose and the piece would have displaced too many buildings from VC, so I need to think smaller.

Now, it just so happens one of my favourite western progs growing up was “High Chaparral”  and I remembered the Cannon’s ranch house was a pretty compact and simple affair.  A quick search on the web and I’ve gathered a few pics.  I will park these here as inspiration for the next build.

Indeed.
A hacienda was on my 'to-do' list too.
No need to do one now!

Yes, very attractive lady for sure!  As characters go, my favourite was her brother, Manolito, in fact I must find a figure to represent him, or indeed the whole family.

If I had the space, I’d want a hacienda like the Montoya’s, her father’s place, but this will fit in....somewhere.

Ah no...I can’t compete with a Malamute construct! ☹️

Cracking thread!
May I suggest that the cattle maybe  relatively sedate, and that someone may have whistled them up,or a cattle farmer ( on foot) could have walked them in? We did just that at our old property in the high plains of NSW, Taralga.
