Guys,

Just got my working manuscript from Rob B over at WHH with the layout and a few internal pictures. I have to say that the book looks nice! It is a hefty 144 pages and this forums painters are pretty much featured throughout the book.

Dominics stuff is featured as the Royal Navy Crew, although the marines are shown as Captain of the Guard & soldiers.

Tom (Mike D. McBrice) looks like his Pirates are featured in the Pirate Section, and it looks like the Prof & mcbrice share the Privateer section of photos.

Also Black Cat bases seems to be featured pretty well in the specialist section.

Also everyone else figures are used in various pictures in the book. All in all it looks great. This forum should be proud that many folks are featured in this book.

Perhaps this is were we can ask about how big the battles in the game are going to be?

Do both. They're different enough that you'll get different games out of them. If not, you can use ideas from both books in your favorite rule set.

I'm planning to get a copy when they come out!

As Pete stated get both!  LotHS will focus on up to groups of 30 while UTBF is more focused on smaller character driven games.

Both play differently, but you can't go wrong with any set of Pirate Rules if your into Pirates. Even if LotHS isn't your cup of tea, at least it will have a ton of cool color pictures of Pirates in it.

I have seen UTBF and IMHO, its a great book! If I hadn't written LotHS, I would be playing UTBF. But once again thats just my two cents.

That's very kind of you. Likewise, I am looking forward to seeing a great-looking book.

I will in all probability make use of both sets.  UTBF is for small one to one games and loths will be used for larger gangs and crews.  You can never have too many rule sets anyway.

personally I can't wait to see loths as it is sure to be full of eye candy.  Any chance of a sneak peak to whet the appetite?

Simon,

Heck just look at some of the other threads from Prof or Dominic, there figures are in the book. If you look at the Profs webpage with his scenic shots of his Pirates, thats what you will see in the book. But sorry, I think Rob B would make me walk the plank if I scanned in any pics & posted them. The only folks that have seen what Rob gave me was my friend Tom O and one of the playtesters here state side Mike G, a few others will get to see it.

But I'm afraid unless you live here in the valley of the Sunstroke, Phoenix AZ and you know where I live, you won't be getting a peek, sorry. :(

Congrats to everybody whose figures are featured in this book! I won't buy it because I don't like the way "warhammer"-labeled books are made today. But for sure it's cool to see printed pictures of your paintwork distributed worldwide.

WitchfinderGeneral,

I got to ask, what is it about how they are made? Is it the the quality of the books or just the content?

Just wondering, because if its the quality of the book, I think WHH has done a great job on them. All color, High Gloss pages, of course the price does make them on the steap side, but it's the higher quality that I'm paying for.

Now if its the content, well I'm sorry you feel that way. I did my best in comming up with a book that would please everyone.

So not bashing, but just want to know what it is that you dislike.

The Legends of the Old West books are some of the nicest looking rulebooks that GW have ever produced.  Full colour photos of models and scenery, stylishly designed pages with playing cards representing page numbers, nice guides on creating scenery, etc. Pete Borlace designed those and I think he's done the book Tim has written as well so it should look rather spiffing.  I like the rules as well - most people know the LOTR game system and for skirmish games it makes them quick and fun to play so you can get more than one game in a night, which is handy for when you're running a league or trying to get though a few scenarios.

The upcoming release of Tim's book is very welcomed at my gaming club.  Most of us have already got some pirate models knocking around but we're now purchasing and painting naval crew models and a few of us are planning to get some ships and scenery.  So - the sooner it's released the better, I think :)

When will this book be published?

I hope in time for Crisis 2007 (even if that's still a few months away)

Jase,

From what I have heard from Rob Broom (And that was a few days ago) the book is still slated for a late October release. Now I'm not sure when Crisis 2007 is, but if its in October than you might be able to see a copy if Rob Broom goes.

All I'm shooting for is to get the book out already. And if it comes out in October, I would like to see it out on my Birthday on the 26 of Oct. That would be a great Birthday present for me.
