* Hammers throws his hat into the ring...
« on: September 12, 2010, 08:25:41 PM »
Yes, there it is... I have a CD based project which I want to do in any case so I figured I might as well enter, unless it complicates things. We'll see later.

After having carefully perused our CD collection, which is not barren of candidates, let me tell you, I picked this...

Unbearable music, no nostalgia attached, not even corny in an entertaining way. Having well rounded buttocks makes for no pardon, had it been a music video I might have reconsidered.

Surface scratched and roughened for better glue adhesiveness.

Is it going to be an Aztec temple? A Mayan zigurat? A llama shed?

Any clues?

I am going for the minimalistic: it is a community ice skating rink.  ;)

Ah, nice. Going by the approx. diameter of 120mm would I be correct in guessing you will also be using the popular 9.642mm scale for the skaters?

It is going to be a blast template. Crater almost ready, just going to carv some deep cracks around the circumference.

I am bitter. Just when you think you have a cast iron formula for airbrushing, skin colour, pine trees it turns on you and bites you in the ass. This time is the paper mache again, which managed to warp the CD. The fucking CD! I can hardly snap a CD in two with my hands!

I think you need to consult an isangoma, as it would appear that you have been cursed by a wizard (umthakathi).

Perhaps you should be more careful when dissing Shakira in future.

lol
Throw that papier mache out the window once and for all. If your lucky it might end up in the ocean and become a bridge made out of waste barrels, old soviet subs, dead cod and papier marche. I'd say that's an overall forever win in all further contests ;)

On a serious note, I really do Hood that it just messed up a bare cd :/ And you should go with the sand+pva+filler=Solid Love-sollution. That doesn't warp cd's at least :)

Fuck you and the mackerel you rode in on, I am sticking with the paper mache!  >:D Plus it would probably warp the bottom of the sea.

I managed that first time I made CD based scenery.  Funnily enough, I thought I had great foresight in doing exactly this:

Let's just say, I no longer scratch and roughen!

Use the image-side, you lump ;). The data-side is the only thing keeping it together. I burst bad music CDs with one hand all the time, dunn no what your issue is. I might hasten to add that the flak from bursting them in this manner is lethal to the eyes and should not be attempted. (an unwanted person within my room at the time got shot down like a B-29, though without the eye-dicing part)

Gawd, what am I talking to you about for anyhoo?

What is the result of the crater anyway? An anti-personel mine, or an anti-materiel mine? Maybe Shakira singing at the ground...?

At least I can both fish and swim in the ocean next to me :p

Anyways, I really hope that you can sort the issue out. And as Bako wrote, do your basing on the printed side...

I am doing OK, I bent the CD till the groundwork cracked in a few places. Item is now perfectly flat again without any visible cracks.

(for those who do not know me/us, Silversix and I are from Swedish antipodes and are, of course joshing)
