A BattleSystems Battle Report
« on: October 16, 2010, 12:52:16 PM »
A few months ago I saw this post: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=19384.0
Soon after I picked up a copy of the rules and finally got to play a game last night with my wife and son.

The town which the characters grew up in had always been a prosperous one, but lately things have been changing for the worse.  The town's well water became fouled, crops died, livestock began bearing young with eight legs, and merchants started refusing to come for fear the town was cursed.  The town's priest, his acolyte, and a few others went to visit the shrine of Lady Mah Fett the matron saint that watched over the town.  Only the acolyte returned half mad and ranting about giant spiders that had desecrated the shrine.  When he calmed down he asked for volunteers to go back with him to destroy the spiders and reconsecrate the shrine.  Only four agreed to join.
Fallana an elvish ranger who's skill with a sword is only surpassed by her skill with a bow, Jade a female thief down on her luck.  Maximar a young dwarvish fighter out to prove himself.  And Collinious, the most experienced member of the group, but still a novice in the ways of magic.  The Party Arrives at the shrine, and see it covered with webs and crawling with spiders both large and giant.

Jade rushes forward attempting to keep hidden, but she steps on a twig alerting the spiders to her presence.  Three large spiders surround her.  The cleric rushes up to aid her as do the dwarf and ranger.  Collinious keeps back.  The giant spiders move along the edges of the board preparing to swarm in from the sides and rear.

Jade takes a serious wound, but fights off the poison.  Two of the large spiders fall, as the giant spiders swarm in.  The party is being overwhelmed with spiders and things are not looking good.  The cleric casts barkskin on Collinious.

Collinious casts a sleep spell on a mass of the spiders evening the odds a little.  The cleric takes a few hits and casts a healing spell on himself.  The ranger takes out more of the giant spiders with her bow.  The thief rushes around dispatching the sleeping large spiders.

The dwarf finally starts hitting the Giant Spider, but starts taking some damage too.  Collinious rushes into battle with his staff.  Fallana, Jade, and the cleric team up on the other Giant Spider.

With only two of the Giant Spiders left the group rushes in and quickly dispatches them and the final sleeping Giant Spider as well.  While the cleric reconsecrates the shrine the rest of the group searches for treasure among the hapless victims of the spiders.

The group returns home triumphant, the town restored to its normal prosperity, and the group tries to return to the lives.  Alas, it does not work.  They have had a taste of adventure now and their old lives have lost their luster.  Soon after this adventure the group joins a merchants caravan as guards and leaves the town in search of glory, but that's another story.

The game was meant to be a short test to see if we were going to like the rules.  We do.  I tweaked the rules a little to include leveling up and left out a few rules like morale.  Next game will involve the group's adventures with the caravans.

"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Cool, nice to see another Battlesystem report.  Sounds like it was a fun scenario.  What were the levels of the characters?

Interested in hearing about the further adventures so I hope you post the reports.

So many games, so little time.

The thief, Ranger, and Fighter were all first level.  The magic user was second level, and the NPC cleric was third level.  After the scenario the thief and fighter leveled.

Thanks for your comments,
Mike
