Dust Tactics "Deluxe Edition"
« on: September 21, 2010, 01:58:57 PM »
I see that there will be a "Deluxe Edition" for Dust Tactics.
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=131
The only difference I see is that the figs will be pre-painted.
For a stiff price of $300...  :o
Thanks, but No Thanks.

I will stick with the unpainted version for $62... www.cardhaus.com/cgi-local/shop3.pl/SID=5196680697034523077/picture=155603

pre-painted

by professional painter. It's not AT43 pre painted style but I agree: 300 dollah it's too much anyway.

$200 for 30 odd miniatures by a professional painter...how does that relate to other painting services prices?

Sangennaru I think they may release some kind of box sets for squads or small forces...but being a board game company rather than a miniature company I don't know how likely it is they would do singles or smaller groups of figures. Certainly I think the previous company that had been developing the game had outlined "reenforcement" sets, but that could have all changed.

7 dollar for a painted mini (average priice - mechs included). Ridicolous price related to other painting service if you think that in your 7 bucks it's included the miniature price. If you buy your standard dust box with 62 dollars and pay someone (professional painter) to paint it you will spend for sure more than 200 dollars. The business colud be maybe to sell the painted miniature individually on CMON and ebay...

I have to agree, the 300 $ sound much, but when calculating it down to the minis you get it is very reasonable!
It all depends on the painting quality of course... 8)

for sure.
for example: to paint a dust mech, personally i would ask for 20 euro (4 hours painting for 5 euro/hour) at least and it would be a little better than tabletop quality. With this price it means that the 4 mechs in the dust box would cost 80 euro at least for painting. Of course nobody loves to work for free and higher quality means higher price.

and 5 euros/hour is not enough to survive if you do only this for job... so maybe they could ask even more...

it's my religion, brother.  ;)
but a lot of crazy fools want their minis painted because they are Gamers and not Painters  lol

anyway Sangennaru you may have a big surprise if you look out some pro-painter's price list. I would like to create a painting studio with a friend of mine and so we did a research in CMON, ebay and many forum about the services and the prices offered by pro-painters. Incredibly there are a lot of people who paint in high quality for very little money. Maybe they are very fast but let me say that 5 euro for a single infantry model in high quality it's really nothing if you want to live with this job. My price would be at least the double so I think I'm not competitive in this market  :?
for example, to paint the entire dust box in high quality I would ask 250 euro or more  lol

actually, i worked (as sculptor) for some months in a painting studio (Warpaint.it - now broken), and they asked around 5 euros for a decent-looking miniature.

i don't know how they managed to do that, and in fact their activity is now closed, after only 6 monts - a lot of money wasted ( shop, banners, material........ ) :(

it's a really hard world where to live... :(
