LAF Help?
« on: October 24, 2010, 05:58:17 PM »
I've got a couple of ideas for some gaming involving Rioting and would love some help, I remember seeing some rules for Rioting games on Free Wargame Rules but can't find them anywhere, so if anybody has a link, life saver! Also Mini's, of course, miniatures any good manufacturers out there, Offensive Miniatures springs to mind? And also, any blogs with a similar setting, Modern Civil war/rioting would be a big help, just to look for inspiration.

Cheers in advance everyone
Steve

Me and my Brother were discussing it, because he's a gamer like me and because of the riots in France right now, bit of a weird period to game but like you said, probably going to see a lot of it very, very soon!

*cough*current politics*cough*

Foundry used to do a pack of looters in their Street Violence range. Those are unarmed except for the occasional crowbar and might therefore be wore useful than the gun-toting gang members that usually define the range.

I've got a pack, okay figures, okay sculpting and casting, but I haven't got around to paint them in three years.

They also have a "Street Thugs" pack:

Not sure how helpful this is but...

1.) S&T Games had a boardgame in one of their magazines allowing opponents to replay the riots from the Chicago Democratic convention.  It had area movement, and was mostly strategic.

2.) The old Tradition magazine had an article on gaming the English corn riots from the 18th century.

3.) Didn't somebody make an actual rules set for the Gangs of New York shortly after the release of the film with the same name?

Let's just keep it mini/rules oriented and we won't have "differences" - forgot that once on TMP...

Gracias,

I agree.

If I want to discuss politics I can do it in other forums.  I visit here for all of the figure-related stuff.   :)

there is some rules in the the free wargames rules site:
http://www.freewargamesrules.co.uk/index.php?page=misc
(in their Misc. page).
One of particular interest is the rules named:
"the battle of Seattle" with "authorities" and "protesters", see the direct link:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010613181952/http://www.islandnet.com/~citizenx/b4srul11.rtf

I also believe that gangster rules maybe also adapted.

Figureswise see the following links:
1.- Outpost games (killer B miniatures) Geezers, they also have some unarmed types suitable for protesters and bystanders, plus cops with buttons etc:
http://www.outpostwargameservices.co.uk/
2.- worth looking is the bears den miniatures with bankers trying to hit customers etc:
http://www.bearsdenminiatures.com/28mm%20Bankers.html
they might be used as protesters or bystanders

How about No Go Zone, any use to you? Besides the greens on the site, there will be these too. Haven't a clue if the game itself will be any good, but the figures look decent.

Didn't Korwin miniatures do some rioters? I think they're being sold as civilians by an american company that I forget the name of (I'm sure it's something similar to sgts mess - they do not-serenity crew, iirc)
