Martians & Machine Guns [Updated 14/04/11]
« on: October 26, 2010, 05:44:45 PM »
Ladies & Gentlemen,
May I present to you my VSF Project Martians & Machine Guns, at the moment it has neither Martians nor Machine Guns but it will... most definitely have some at some point... probably...  ;)

Anyway at the moment my goal is to complete a couple of armies for VSF gaming in 6mm, this will include a British Army, a French Army and a Martian Army. I will also be building up aeronef fleet's to complement these armies and perhaps dabbling in a few Land Ironclads too.

Anyway on to some pictures.

1st Battalion, Durham Light Infantry.

These were initially painted for the Sudan but I got side tracked into VSF and so they're in Khaki...

Naval Brigade of HMS Atropos & HMS Panther

Four Companies of Naval Brigade, which will be split in to two, one armed with two Gatling Guns (to follow) and one armed with two Gardner Guns (to also follow)

All miniatures up until this point are Baccus.

13th Cruiser Squadron: HMS Fortune, HMS Fury, HMS Fearless (Steadfast Class), HMS Minotaur (Exeter Class), HMS Centaur (Exeter Class), HMS Leopard (Ralwalpindi Class), HMS Hunter, HMS Hornet, HMS Hotspur (Cossack Class)

Some of my British Aeronef Fleet from Brigade Models, these ships are for the most part veterans of the Atlantis Campaign.  ;)

Anyway hopefully that has whetted your appetite, if not perhaps the promise of 6mm Highland Infantry, French Aeronefs and finally at some point... probably... maybe... some Martians & Machine Guns.

for more pictures & in depth posts check out my blog "Martians & Machine Guns". Until the next time.

Thanks for the replies.

The infantry are by Baccus are from their Colonial and ACW ranges and you can get them at http://www.baccus6mm.com/, whilst the bases are by Renedra and you can get them at http://renedra.co.uk/webstore.html and as Lupus said the Aeronefs are from http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/.

Hope that helps, all the links can be found on my blog too.  :)

Martians & Machine Guns -The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

Just a little progress update, over the weekend I've been working on my latest battalion for this project, The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). I have to say they were every bit as difficult as i thought they would be, the kilts were pretty tough (I'll try to get a good picture tomorrow), fortunately 6mm is pretty forgiving and i'm very happy with the result so far.

Models by Baccus, Bases by Renedra.

More pictures on my blog, hopefully I'll add some pictures of them finished tomorrow.

6mm and VSF a lovely combination.  Too bad the whole VSF idea fell through at my local gamesgroup, but at least I got them that crazy to start playing with little little men.

To be honest I'm not sure why it hasn't caught on yet, Baccus, Heroics & Ros and Irregular all make suitable 6mm miniatures for Victorian era armies, its hardly a huge leap from there to VSF. Perhaps I need to bring out the actual VSF elements to get people interested. Still glad you've got people into 6mm at your club, it's such a wonderful scale and gives a wonderful visual effect when you've got all those miniatures on the table.   :)

Just a couple of pictures of the finished Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) and an update shot of the army so far. Have a busy week ahead so probably no major updates for a fortnight or so.

Wow... that is a super looking army.

Tell me.  Are Baccus true 6mm?  I've read they are a bit bigger.

Cheers and looking forward to further additions.

Thanks for looking. Baccus have an example on their website under the FAQ section and I had a quick measure of my examples and they're both around 6.5mm to the eye, there is a comparison between Baccus, Irregular and Heroics and Ros on the Baccus website showing the various sizes of each manufacturer. I'll post up a picture when i get a chance.

Coming along nicely Haarken. Have you had any luck with tripods yet?
Don't!

@Lupus: Thanks for the reply, knowing that the content of this project might be useful to someone else is really keeping me motivated.

@Thunderchicken: I have had luck, I stumbled upon some rather gorgeous tripods that count among their influences the Half Life 2 Strider (Example Here). There should be a trio of them winging their way to me at this very moment. I'll post pictures and a full review of them once they arrive, not sure if they'll fit the project at the moment, if not may need to start a new project around them.  ;)
