ACW Armies in 28mm Speed Build!
« on: October 31, 2010, 07:01:11 PM »
Another breakneck speed build for the Wargame Holidays in Crete.  Here are some photos of some of the latest stuff I've been working on for the ACW collection.  Aiming to build each of the Corps at Gettysburg and Chancellorsville with two divisions representing each Corps, each with 4-6 regiments.

Some of the 1,000 new Confederates, bases need doing as do the flags, all Perry.

Largely repaints here, some Confederate cavalry and infantry.

More Confederate repaints, some command stands needed for the boys at the back.

Some of the new artillery.

Some new Union artillery

Union regiments, again Perry, I've done 15 new ones of these.  Still need basing and flagging.

Bought a job lot of mounted officers, don't know the make.  Aim to add Corps flags to these bases.

A venerable Ian Weekly covered bridge, finally painted.

An ebay bargain - 99p plus £4 postage - perfect 28mm, sold as a resin painted piece for the garden with lights in it!  Completely repainted and have stuck hundreds of tiny pieces of card on the roof.  I like it though, very useful.

Scratchbuilt general purpose cabin.

Simple little shack.

Another farm house cabin this time in green.

Working on some town houses for Gettysburg, just finishing off the last of the Union infantry.

Nice figures, I like the green cabin, that would look very good on my table for my FIW's. Well done!!!

Cheers simple build.  I used the black foam you get when you buy computers and printers. Cut the rough shape out.  Stuck a simple card roof onto the top then individual bits of card.  Planking made from strips of card from a dog food box!.  The windows are made by sticking cut wire meshing to a piece of card and then sticking them on to the walls before you put the planking on.  The only real modelling products are the balsa door and porch, the pole is a matchstick, the chimmney is a Kreigspiel block I bought from Irregular some years ago.

Cheers Ray - I'm trying to get at least four regiments done a week if I can.  Looking forward to getting to the point when I'm just adding in command stands and so forth.  Lots more to get done, but I'm enjoying it.

A massive project, mate!

I used to do a lot of ACW gaming, way back when (Rally 'Round the Flag rules).  We used a house rule for regimental bases for morale.

I believe it was something like... 6 bases/Green, 5 bases/Trained, 4 bases/Crack and 3 bases/Elite.

It seemed to work quite well on the table top.

BTW:  Those are some enormous tables you use for gaming.  The Indian Mutiny Game looks especially nice.

Cheers Ray - can't wait to see what the ACW look like on the table.  The whole collection is around 2,500-3,000 figures, so its about twice the size of the Indian Mutiny figurewise.
Love the Indian Mutiny.  Lots more shots of the games coming up in Battlegames, Wargames Illustrated and Wargames Annual.

16 new Confederate regiments ready now:

Deployed as four divisions.

First of the four divisions.

The second division.

And the third.

The final one.
Mainly Perry with a single Redoubt/OG one to make up the 16th regiment.
All are in regiments of 25, 5 stands per regiment.

Next up Confederate cavalry and command stands, then on to some more Union regiments (4 of them).

Thanks everyone.  They are all destined for a 1700 mile trip to Crete for my wargame holiday centre.  I need to take some shots of the rest of the collection which is already done, around another 2,000 figures.
It's great to hear from people - it keeps me going during these cold nights with a paint brush for company!!

Some newly finished bits and bobs.

First up 9 new Confederate command stands, along with some venerable Minifigs, Greenwood and Ball and Hinchliffe figures added onto the stands:

A full Confederate cavalry brigade of 30 figures, mainly Hinchliffe:

Next up four new 25 man Union infantry regiments......
