Some of the latest work on this project.

A slightly tidied unit of Confederate zouaves - a gift from an old friend.

A tidied up unit of Union zouaves - again a gift from an old mate.

A Union officer - scuffs sorted - a gift from an old friend.

One of the two newly repainted Hinchcliffe US sharpshooters.

All 50 of the newly repainted US sharpshooters and the zouave unit.

Four new Union regiments, Dixon, Warrior, Warrior and Hinchcliffe.

First of the four new Hovels buildings painted over Christmas.

Think this is called four chimneys?

Hovels shack.

Hovels barn, came with three fence sections and a water trough.  I've added a loft and put in some straw.

The Union officer is Custer.

Nice setup.  I have bought a lot of painted figures on Ebay, common basing sorts them out though.

Hello

The Hovels buildings look handy. Can you comment on their scale? They're listed as 25mm on the site, but that doesn't tell much in these days of 25mm/28mm/heroic/true confusion. Also, is the casting any good? They look nice painted. However, sometimes it is only achieved by lots and lots of polishing. (Been there, done that. >:( ) Any commentary will be appreciated. Thanks.  :)

Hi Dolmot - I'd say they are pretty good in terms of scale.  The doors are around 30mm or so.  They were pretty clean, not a lot of pitting and dodgy casting.  To be honest, I had very little to do to them aside from trimming off the odd bit of resin.  They aren't as messy as I feared around the roof overhangs.  They also stand flat which is good.  I undercoated them in Sandtex Bitter Chocolate and used a mix of emulsion tester pots (from the 1829?) collection and some usual craft paints. The one thing you don't get are the posts, so you need to add these yourself (I used balsa).  Don't put them on until you've done 90% of the work on the building as its nearly impossible to fudge around them.  Just size them up and stick them on with superglue towards the end of the paint job.  I think I'll probably varnish the buildings to cut down on rubbing damage.  The buildings with the windows and shutters are the most fiddly to paint.  In the past I've always based the buildings, but I'm not sure I'll bother this time.  Hope that's some help.  I'll try to remember to take a shot of some soldiers alongside the buildings so you can judge the scale for yourself.

Latest finished units, now based up and ready for transit - six new Union regiments:

Hawkins Zoauves, Hinchcliffe repaints.

First of four Warrior Miniatures regiments.

Second Warrior regiment.

Third one.

Fourth one.

All six new ones.

Slightly retouched and rebased figures from a wargame buddy.

WIP on a new building.  Trying a new technique here.

OK so here is the nearly finished Army of Northern Virginia - all 54 infantry regiments.  I've decided to go for all three Corps being represented by three divisions, each comprising of two brigades.  Each of the brigades has three regiments.  Most of the regiments are five stands of 5 figures, some have 6 stands and some of the stands have 6 figures.
The collection dates back to the 1970s, the original core is Tradition figures painted by Tim Hall.  We traded them back in the 1980s, since then we've both added to them.  I've significantly reorganised and added about 26 regiments to the collection.
Still to do are more cavalry (lots of riders no horses), also need to paint up the artillery limbers too and 9 divisional commanders.

I Corps:

II Corps:

III Corps:

Artillery:

Cavalry:

The whole army:

Another view:

You can see there's still a bit of basing to finish off, which is now done. as are the five missing flags.

Might have a quick break from the ACW now and move on to Normandy.

After a lot of pain and gallons of blue paint, the Army of the Potomac is finally finished - I've now got 84 regiments done, based and just ten regiments to flag up.
Now working on 16 four horse limbers!  64 horses alone!  What colour are Union and Confederate limbers anyway?

Looking forward to it!  You'll have to run a game in 2013 for certain, as it will be the 150th anniversary.  8)

Absolutely, hoping to tweak the armies to play other major battles, Chancellorsville is one of my all time favourites.
