foundry darkest africa and pirates questions
« on: November 17, 2010, 09:58:21 AM »
Hi,

I have some questions

1. do both ranges have the same size and can be used in one unit?

2. which DA figures can be used as slave soldiers (Congo or Sudan)?

3. could the tribal musketeers also be used as askaris?

Thank you!

I have seen both Foundry Darkest Africa, specifically Zanzibaris and tribal guys, and Swashbuckler/Pirate figures on the same table and didn't notice any size difference problem.  There are some size differences between the some of the early pirate line and later figures, but well within the range of human variation.  Obviously don't want a regimented look when dealing with individually mounted figures for something as wild as pirates.

Slave soldiers? Whose slaves?  I don't know much about Sudan, but for Congo I would guess that Foundry tribal musketeers and Ruga Ruga might fit the bill.  Maybe generic askari could be used as slaves of Zanzibari types, but not sure.

Wouldn't want to use the tribal musketeers as askaris.  The Foundry tribal musketeers are wearing almost nothing, and European's seem to have used askaris wearing more clothing.
Sailors have more fun!

I just started working on some pirates and made a few pictures of them next to some darkest africa mini's. Not the best and now I see they're a bit fuzzy, but they'll give you the comparison you need.

Thank you Buzgob,

meanwhile I have noticed, that some of the pirate figures (some of the chinese pirates and most of the maroons/renegades) are based on Darkest Africa puppets. They have the same bases and the same legs like some of the tribal warriors/Askaris.

So I think it's not a problem to use them together.
