Feyzin Refinery, Second Glory War 2291 - 'Tomorrows War' AAR
« on: November 20, 2010, 12:58:57 AM »
During the Second Glory War, the Democratic Republic of Glory (DPRG) made an attempt to capture several key resource production facilities from the Republic of Arden (RA). One of these was the PetroPlus facility located at Feyzin that produced large quantities of Petro-Chemical fuels, with some estimates suggesting that it produced 30% of Arden's total production. Loss or destruction of this refinery would seriously hamper the ability of the RA to defend their own territory, let alone conduct offensive operations against the DPRG.

The DPRG 'Tiger Brigade' made a successful breakthrough of the Foix Gap in 2291, and one of their targets became the Feyzin Refinery. DPRG intel pointed to it being lightly defended by second line RA troops or even militia. Colonel Yong-Kun despatched a platoon of infantry with some tank support to seize the first processing plant of the sprawling facility. It was his view that the RA forces would scatter at the first sight of DPRG troops.

Unfortunately for Yong-Kun, and more importantly the attacking force, the refinery was not defended by RA troops. Two days previously to the attack, when word of the 'Tiger Brigade' passing through the Foix Gap had reached Arden GCHQ, they decided to despatch a force to protect the refinery. With few RA forces to spare, the newly arrived 2/3 USMC sent a small combat group to the area. With half a platoon, a weapons squad, a squad of 'Trojans' and two M1A3 Perkins Grav Tanks, the force was small but very powerful. They would prove to be a nasty surprise for the DPRG.

When the actual attack materialised it never really made much headway. The weapons squad, dug-in around the small village of Feyzin, and supported by some USMC fire teams held the USMC left flank, stalling the DPRG attack on the ridge. Heavy fire from the two USMC M11 Beam Cannons, pinned down and caused large numbers of wounded to the attackers. Backed by fire from two fire teams the DPRG were caught in a crossfire that they were unable to push out of as casualties rose. Even when they directed all their fire onto a single USMC fire team, the small group of marines held out, returning fire against each attacker while only loosing one of their own men wounded. With an M1A3 Perkins arriving to support, the DPRG attack crumbled. The Perkins took out the DPRG missile team and the Type-93 Scatter Laser team, before calmly moving off to lend support to the other flank.

On the USMC right flank, things were not much better for the DPRG, though the USMC did suffer heavier losses. The DPRG attack started with a rush through the light woods, and the USMC held their fire. As they got closer, the 'Trojan' robot squad moved into action and engaged one of the DPRG Type-74 Chonma-Ho MBTs. Despite only possessing light calibre AT missiles, one of the robots suceeded in damaging the vehicles optics, something that would prove crucial moments later. The return fire of the heavy gun on the Chonma-Ho however totally destroyed on of the Trojans with a direct hit and momentarily caused another to go offline. But now the second USMC Perkins entered the fray. The first round from its 200mm Fusion Gun hit the Song-Ta tank destroyer causing it to catch fire and render it inoperable. The vehicle slewed to a halt in the open and the crew ran for their lives. Next the Perkins turned to draw a bead on the Chonma-Ho, with its damaged optics the DPRG tank failed to act quick enough and another fusion round hit the Chonma-Ho head on, penetrating the hull and entering the ammo carousel. This caused a catastrophic explosion, showering debris around the area, and causing a nearby DPRG fire team to dive for cover.

As this was happening some of the DPRG infantry had made it closer to the refinery storage area. The remaining Chonma-Ho moved to get a shot against the Perkins, and the round hit the USMC tanks Fusion Gun, destroying it. With only its point defence system the tank moved to place itself valiantly between the DPRG infantry and the main facility building. But the Chonma-Ho lined up for a second shot. Once again the Trojans stepped in. Despite another robot taking a direct hit from the enemy tanks 100mm gun, the two remaining Trojans once again used their light AT missiles, and once again got lucky. This time their hits destroyed the tanks main gun. The crew thus began to withdraw, left with only the vehicle MG for defence. However during this fighting the DPRG infantry had advanced. Half of the infantry was pinned down in the large crater, under fire from the second Perkins, but two teams made it through the storage area and ran for the facility building. But here they got ambushed by three USMC fire teams on the roof of the facility building. The short firefight, cost the USMC 4 casualties, but all the DPRG soldiers lay dead or wounded when the firing stopped.

With huge losses the DPRG had no option but to retreat. The attack, without adequate support, against a well-trained enemy had cost them dear. 8 killed and 17 wounded plus all their vehicles knocked out. The USMC had one Perkins damaged, 2 men killed and 8 wounded, plus two totally destroyed Trojan Combat Robots. A highly successful defence by the USMC, but one that also taught the DPRG valuable lessons, and revealed to them the presence of the USMC forces on Glory. Next time they would be better prepared...

Dont think so. Me and Shawn both independantly wrote the same scenario for the Foix Gap so that will probably go in.

We aim to do a campaign book for both Glory and the Mockba campaign.
