new guy in town...be nice!
« on: September 02, 2007, 07:40:13 PM »
Hello gents and ladies if there are any !

English newbie signing in for the first time !

My real names is Steve, but most folk on the net who know me, know me
as mousy brown. I have come to this forum in a round about way via the
  http://www.steve-dean.co.uk/  and http://www.witchhunter.net/   where I
discovered and fell in love with Wild West gaming  Thanks to The most
excellent Witch Town .

Have had the Lotow core book for a while now and am still to get the actual
gaming under way. Purchased the Gutshot core rule book at Partizan
wargames show earlier this year and have been putting together a
collection of figures and buildings ever since.

I have used mostly Hovels buildings for the town and  Artizan figures for
the ..er  figures ! With a few Blackscorpian sculpts thrown in, but I have just
ordered a few from Dixons including the Stage coach and some wagons
from Redoubt enterprises.

I have only been painting miniatures for a couple of years now and have
only really got any good at it since being a member on Steve Deans forum
where I have received much help, advice and encouragement.

Hoping to receive the same here now its time to actually start gaming the
game.

Would love to share some pictures of my town with you chaps  but not sure
about how to upload them to your forum yet.

For now though, you can view some early work in progress pictures in my
photobucket album. which I hope to update with finished pictures soon ..

If you're really bored you can view my other albums in which you will
find pictures of non wild west painting and of our Wargames club hall.

Anyway  guess that’s enough for openers ! Hope to post more as I progress…

Cheers ..Mousy brown.

Ps  I’ve named my town,  Malice and set it in Arizona 1880 ish !

any advice and feedback would be much appreciated ! Thanks! :)

Hi Steve,

welcome again and happy gaming with your very nice town! I think you've a really good job with that little pisece of Wild West.

Unfotunately it's not possible to upload any pics to the forum ( I just need to install the mod or wait to release the vers.3 of the forum). But you could link you pics from Photobucket to your post like this below, just need to use the IMG-button . Let me know if you need some more assistance with that.

  Hey thanks Prof' for the Welcome and help. So used to just uploading pics straight to SD /forum i had forgotten about the
photobucket upload.
:?:  when I have done this in the past the pictures have changed to small
white boxes with red crosses in after a few days :?:

Ray--I didnt know you were resisdent here too ! Cant seem to go anywhere
without bumping into you.  People will talk!  :freak:
Well now you've seen the W I P picutures and can see the rate at which I've been working away!
(ps do they know here about the Bk thing)

Grimm -- thank you . But im not sure i understand your meaning. Do you
mean the painted base board on which the buildings stand?
If so thats pretty much what I have had to do to get everything going and
yet keep the buildings free so I can move them about and generate
different layouts.
The buildings themselves are not stuck to their individual bases and so
can be lifted off and put onto any gaming surface / colour etc.

Once all is done and finished I will look into adding some more texture
to the base board.

Not sure myself about the orangy / pinky  terracotta colour of the bases yet but it
shows up a lot more on the pics than to the eye.

please advise  :?:

Ps guys...Now I know you know Ray Earle, I can point out the name on the
riding school sign outside the stables.. Ray being a motorbike instructer etc!

get it ? :D

i managed to get my hands on three more buildings from Hovels today
at the Partizan show..and they hinted to me that their range was about
to get an overhaul and update !!

I mean the woodern table where the Town is placed on not the Bases of the Buildings !!!!!
I also like the color of the orangy / pinky terracotta colour.

Your town is much better then my one so no worry

Great set up and paint jobs (someday I'll finish my town) I love the Undertaker being next to the Docs Office (don't get sick or hurt in Malice) Cool stuff Mousy and welcome to the board.

Oh wow, what a great town!  I love the painted backdrop. . . nice idea.  I'll have to bookmark your town pics and use as inspiration as I build my own.

I think your figures look very nice as well. . . don't be so hard on yourself!

What I think is really cool is how many people outside the US enjoy gaming our Old West.

Many thanks for your kind comments gentlemen.

Grimm. Got ya! But for now i have just dry brushed up the flat wooden
base to allow me to rearange the buildings when ever i want .. later
a sculpted board may be created for show purposes. As our club do
a lot of demonstration games at wargames shows and also occasionally
take our tables to museum standard and school projects.

Bandit86  GET IT DONE ! You know you want to!  Yeah tickled me to put
the Docs next to the undertaker. Really makes a point to new guys as
they arrive in town... beware!

Malamute.. thanks for the welcome

cmsciulli  ..bookmark away and thanks for the confidence booster. always
full of self doubt me. Every time I do something i think is good i look
on places like this and see better!

Wild west skirmish games are really hitting it off in England at the moment!
In no small part thanks to the release of the Deadwood series on DVD!

cheers again folks  mousy..../ more soon !
