North Sussex Chap Signing In
« on: December 17, 2010, 11:39:29 AM »
Greetings gents/ladies/non-descriptive others, ;)

Just poking my head above the parapet to sniff the air as it were.  I'm a long time collector/gamer (I grew up with, then out of, GW) with generally more interest in painting/converting/sculpting rather than gaming but I am now looking for any kind of pulp-type stuff and possibly VSF.

Anyone around the south of London?

Kind regards,

Damas

Hi Damas,

Welcome.

Spend some time here and you'll be VSFing in no time!  ;)

There'a a good bunch of chaps from the London/Home Counties area on this forum. Also a couple of times a year LAFers get together for some big gaming sessions in Twickenham culminating in BLAM in the autumn (search under BLAM and you'll see what I mean).
Don't!

Hi Cal and TC,

Thanks for the greets!

I have already gone through all the Pulp and VSF archives on here before joining and I must say, there is a certain zepp :-* I want to see in the flesh. :D

I've already started collecting a couple of odds and sods for Pulp stuff in the plane front as I saw the JU52/3m civilian for sale so snapped it up as a great big shiney.  ::)

Sorry I'm late to the party!

I'm in South West London, so not far from Horsham. :)

As TC and the others have said we get together now and again, so I am sure you will be able to join us, especially if you are interested in VSF :D

Well, with Christmas near, some spare cash and a supportive wife, what sort of stuff should I look to get for VSF?

I've checked through a lot of the forum history and seen the awesome 'nefs in use built with cavorite or liftwood.  But do you chaps mainly roleplay/skirmish or have fully fledged battles? Queensbury rules not-withstanding.

Also, as VSF seems to be the flavour currently about, what great nation is under-represented?  I have no current favorite and would be happy to pursue the interests of a nation not yet seen on the field.

Regards,

D

Glad to see you enter the fold as it were  :D

We mainly play skirmish games for VSF. A few units of figures, a few 'devices' and a neff or two. (No Queensbury  ;) )

As too under-represented nations, I don't think Russia has got any supporters so that could be interesting. There are figures out there that can be used. Redoubt Boxer Rebellion for one (off the top of my head).

Come join the fun and make something  :D

cheers

James

Barring any other suggestions, I'll have a look for some suitable models and see what the Tzarist forces can muster!

Bullshott has a Russian force, but not very large, so perhaps a good choice. Although if you have any leanings towards a specific nation go with it. Reinforcemtns are always welcome on the battlefield.

As Jimbibbly has said we play large scale skirmishes, although we have had a couple of large multiplayer engagements, The Battle of Kew plus too large encounters on Venus and Atlantis involving six - eitgh players with loads of troops and steam what not.

The rules we have used are GASLIGHT. Not the best, but they are widely played so familiar of sorts to most of the chaps. We are sorting out own own home grown rules, but not yet ready to go with them.

As for figures if you go with Russia Jimbib had already suggested Redoubt, or you could use Copplestone BoB or even at a push Old Glory Russians from the Boxer Rebellion range. They are not bad as far as OG sculpts go...

Well, I don't have much of a nation favourite any more, (it used to be Rule Brittannia all the way! 8)) I'm just looking to collect a force others don't have so there is more variety and less blue on blue gaming.  ;)
Plus, as this is a foray into new territory I have no old bits and bobs lying around giving me a bias.

I've had a look around and there are some ok Tzar forces.  Until I pick up the rules, what size force should I be planning for?  Command, infantry, support, 1 or two specials, transport 'nef etc.  How many models?

So, where does one get GASLIGHT at reasonable cost?
