I can imagine a kind of 'Dark Star' moment when a bomb toddles into the wrong place and has to be talked out of exploding.  lol

This will be quite possible. The players have to pre-programme the automatons before the game starts using a set of counters (very much like robots in a certain old game).

I've yet to decide how killy they will be, but considering the randomness of their actions I think it will be rather a lot.  lol

Should these be cases as opposed to candies that were only inspiration, any pointers, from anyone, as to if these might be available in the US?

They're easy to find... available after a quick google: http://www.candypros.com/super-mario-bombs-12ct-p-1939.htm

On an 'ell of a note,  you dropped the 'L'. ;->=

Wait, you expected gratitude?!?!?

Oh.

It's only fair...

Thanks...  lol

Here's the good engineer himself:

Isembard Kingdom Brunel

And here's a shot where he's rummaging through the African savannah with one of his automatons:

You have to be careful of the African wild life.

EDIT:

I might add that my British army is actually going to be the project I do for Horisont III: Starship Troopers 1889 (the gaming convention in November in Denmark). I'm trying to write an add-on for Battlefield Evolution which in turn would be available as a download (like the ones done by Agis Neubauer for WWII)

The Starship Troopers concept obviously calls for some drop ships. And I'll admit that I'm a bit split between two concepts:

The Balloon:

I imagine a standard air balloon lifting in and dropping a container (imagine a tuna can with a door and rivets on it) of 20 soldiers. The container is fixed to the balloon with wires and has a press release button. (never mind the actual psychics - they have soft cushions in the container)

The Steam Drop ship:

This would be somewhat of a copy of the original SST dropships only with steam tech added. And painted in a completely different fashion. Gold and bronze clockwork style.

I'm willing to upload some concept sketches I did, but I'm no artist.  ;D

For a drop ship I have a few large xmas "bell" decorations still awaiting me to drill out pot holes add a door and some sort of "cushion" on the bottom (thinking of something like a pair of old headphones).
Add either a Balloon at the top or perhaps a big propellor just like a Sycamore seed.
gan canny kidder!

In the war against the Arachnids scout craft like this Swigley A23 Aeronef have become invaluable; scouting out the African countryside for bug infestations.

A clever array of equipment enables the Swigley to perform in air reperations on other 'nefs as well.
However, the usual job for the automaton arm is simply that of dropping bombs.

Why am I consumed by mental images of Royal Marines fast-roping out of a hovering aeronef as the Gardner guns hammer away? Beautiful work!

The Swigley is a gem!  :-*

I like the ideas for drop-ships too. A concept for a Zeppelin has been floating around my mind for a while, and I think a couple of 'tuna can' drop capsules could be added to the design quite easily. Hmm...   ::)

Thank you!

I'm beginning to be very much in favour of balloons with tuna cans.  lol

Great stuff, as I already commented on that other forum.

I must begin to get my Russians together, so you will have other things than bugs to face. But I have been a bit sidetracked on a secret project ;)

I look forward to try the rules with VSF.

That other forum!  * cue cacophony* lol

Sidetracking is goooood! And now I'm completely bewildered about why or what you've been sidetracked by! ;D

Arf course the Russians should also have a Sudan beating. My 'project' with the SST is mainly just for Horisont.
Gaming boards and the British are easily reusable later.

I look forward to try the rules with VSF.

So do I... currently in a bit of a hassle with the fact that Mongoose has ended the open license. Though if I rewrite the rules with other words the rules are essentially mine. So I might do that. Or just make it a free supplement for a(nother) dead game. I would like to put everything in one book though.

Thank you Mr. MalaMute... still waiting for the Martians.

The Sudan Tribune reports directly from the front of the conflict between Man and Insect:

The Askari are an invaluable asset in the war against the bugs Two Asakaris are almost the match of a single Warrior in close quarter fighting.

Although the Insects are generally brainless certain individuals do have the power to reason. Mr. Brunel is hands on with regards to figuring out what the bug mind fears!

Ingenuity vs. Evolution is proving to be the conflict within the conflict in fighting the Arachnids

Would you like to know more?
