Star wars Project: 2018 update. AT-ST's and demolition droid.
« on: January 09, 2011, 03:02:19 PM »
And of course we know the rest.... all 6 episodes, numerous spin offs, the books, the games, (the pillow cases, I still have mine!).

The rise, the fall, the good, the bad and the gungan  :D.

Well, for me starwars fuelled my laser brained delusions from the age of 5, 1977 Episode IV A New Hope. For the last 34 years my journey through this thing called life has been fuelled by the worlds and words of Mr Lucas. The attic is full of storage boxes of various star wars merchandise, carded minis, boxed vehicles, cookie jars, jigsaws, you name it, it's probably up there.

Even now with my twin boy and girl, (you've no idea how hard it was for me not to insist on Luke and Leia for names, and why my wife refused to let me go to the registery office on my own! ;)) I find that my impression of Yoda helps my son eat his dinner and the john williams music already raises a smile from my daughter when i hum along.

So setting the context of my obsession, brings me onto the project in question... (more in a bit, Yoda is required to feed the younglings!).

So for now a few pics of the lead in question:

I had most of the boxed sets here for around 10 years, with a few obtained recently and a large quantity of star wars lead coming in from another collector friend of mine. I'd always promised myself that I'd so something with them rather than horde and horde, (every lead head's addictive promise!) but recently with a great disturbance in the force, came the opportunity to do something.

I can safely say that I almost have all that I need for this overarching project(s).

I've also got a good few Actionfleet ships which I'll post up in due course.
:D

Can't wait to see what you are doing. I've just started mine:

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=25272.0

I'm thinking of a game based around some Bounty Hunters racing to recovering a dropped shipment - (maybe Han's from ANH) in the Jundland wastes.

Four players - maybe Bounty Hunters, Tusken Raiders, Imperials - and possibly Han and Chewie fighting it out through a Jawa Settlement.

Table - basic desert scenery, a couple of buildings.

Rules - probably SoBaH as it's quick and easy.

Still in my head, but slowly coming together...
Something Crooked this way comes...

So then onto the the planning.

Ok so where to go with this... there were a number of options and still are as with the number of figures I've got (and will continue to get :) ) means that this will be an overarching Project, with a number of separate project threads.

From my childhood, ESB and the Imperial Attack on Echo Base was always my favourite, (I can remember the snows in Kent in the 80's when I basically lived outside as did my star wars figures running away from wampas or setting up the attack on the Shield Generators.

So the sixth planet in the Hoth system had to figure in my plans, but there is an issue with this and WEG figures. Unfortuantely Grenadier only did one pose of Imperial storm (snow) trooper and one pose of rebel trooper, (plus Han in hoth gear of course).

Snowtroopers:

Also at the time this started this project I had 10 snowtroopers, (better than nothing) and zero rebel troopers, and had still to get hold of the ESB boxed set. Well a few timely emails later and I'd managed to secure a reasonable number of Imperials and a few other bits and pieces as well.

Currently have 36, (6 painted this week):

Will be using a few MG34's to convert a few to long barreled blaster troopers.

Imperial Probe Droid:

part of the ESB boxed set, really pleased with the way it's turned out.

More to come, including a bit more details on my AT-AT Driver/TIE Fighter conversion paint.

Man, I am jealous. I never got my hands on any of the WEG lead except for the Rancor...and that guys is one heavy beast, let me tell you! I am forced by budget to do my Star Wars setup using the collectable figures. But you know, they're still better than nothing.

Beautiful so far, Commander.

Hi Commander,

Wich rule or rules do you intent to play with ?

Not sure yet Kieffer, I have the miniature Battles rules but them seem a little '80's' if you know what I mean. Will have a bit more of a think on this as the work progresses.

AT-AT Driver:

AT-AT Drivers were cool weren't they? Imperial Ice Truckers! :D

Yeah ok TIE fighter pilots were too but I remember seeing these guys first time round and thinking wow!!

WEG did a TIE fighter pilot in the Imperial Forces boxed set and as I have three of them I fancied having a go at 'Hothing' one up.

Although the costumes are very similar their are some differences:

But to be honest as they never did one in the WEG range once painted I didn't think the differences really matter, (although I might add the shoulder armour at some stage).

I also added a few of the red marks on the mouth gills, but the central ridge etc, also the orange insigna the back of the helmet, one of the AT-AT crew, (I'll take another shot from the back later). The Imperial icons were a rough approximation, that I think work well for a 25mm mini.

I might add a blaster rather than a pistol to the next one, and definately the shoulder plates too.

Next up: Snow bases and supplies.

can't believe you had that stash for 10 years and did nothing with them...

what conversion work did you do on the AT-AT driver? you didn't say...

the problem with the AT-AT driver/TIE pilot costume was that the stormtrooper/rebelpilot combo helmet was it was so massive... always looks fine on action figures and in the comics and what have you, but on a person always looks so weird...
