Comparison pics?
« on: January 15, 2011, 01:26:34 PM »
Hi... new here, as you can tell from my post count. Some may recognize me from the Forum of Doom.

Lately, I've been working on a boardgame based on the mythos (titled Mythos Horror, I'll create another topic to discuss about it). In a nutshell, it's a dumbed down Arkham Horror, leaned towards combat, to be played with minis (it could be played with counters... but minis are much cooler!).

From the "web research" I've done this last week looking for minis of the mythos monsters, I've found that the main providers seem to be Rafm, Em4 and Black Cat. The problem is that the pics from their sites are pretty poor, and provide no sense of size/scale.
So, since some of the people here seem to have very extensive collections of mythos minis, I'm asking for your help to determine the size of some minis. A pic of all of them next to the other, against a background with a ruler or flanked by 30mm humans, would be much appreciated.

I'll divide the minis I'm interested in in two groups.

The first one are the Great Old Ones:
· Rafm - Nyarlathotep
· Rafm - Tsuthoggua
· Rafm - Yig
· Rafm - Y'golonac
· Rafm - King in Yellow
· Rafm - Chauga Faugn
· Reaper - Eldritch Horror (Cthulhu look-alike)
· Crocodile Games - any wendigo (I'm thinking of using one to represent Ithaqua)

The second group are the creatures:
· Rafm - Servitor of the outer gods
· Rafm - Shoggoth
· Rafm - Dark young of Shub-Niggurath
· Rafm - Ghouls
· Rafm - Byakhee
· Rafm - Hounds of Tindalos
· Rafm - Hunting Horror
· Rafm - Leng spider

Lastly, some comparison of monsters made by different companies:
· Rafm - Nightgaunt
· Rafm - Nightgaunt, demonic servitor
· Em4 - Nightgaunt
· Rafm - Deep ones
· Em4 - Deep ones
· Black Cat - Deep ones
· Rafm - Dimensional shamblers
· Em4 - Dimensional shamblers
· Rafm - Mi-Go
· Black Cat - Mi-Go
· Rafm - Tcho tcho
· Black Cat - Tcho tcho
· Rafm - Serpent men
· Em4 - Serpent men
· Black Cat - Serpent Men

Well, I think that covers everything... for now...

:o Is a smaller subset appreciated as much, because that's all I can do?

Contains:

· Rafm - King in Yellow

· Reaper - Eldritch Horror (Cthulhu look-alike)

· Rafm - Shoggoth
· Rafm - Dark young of Shub-Niggurath
· Rafm - Ghouls

· Rafm - Nightgaunt
· Em4 - Nightgaunt
· Black Cat - Deep ones
· Rafm - Dimensional shamblers
· Rafm - Mi-Go
· Em4 - Serpent men

...I think. Some fairly standard 28mm-ish Heresy, Spyglass and Artizan minis have been thrown in that piece of cardboard art too. That whole setup is still on my table so let me know if you need any other pics of those.

(Apologies for the few unpainted ones. They're shown only for informational purposes.  ;) )

Thank you very much! :D That's a very useful pic, with the ruler.

And there are already a few susprises. For example, I didn't expect Chauga Faugn to be that small. Or the byakhee to be that utterly big!
As you may notice, I'm one of those scale-nazis. I can't stand mixing different scales. At least, since its monsters we're talking about here, my tolerance is broader.
And also, gladly the Great Old Ones don't need to be in the same scale as monsters or investigators. In fact, for my boardgame I wouldn't need them at all, since they are not to be fought, but to represent some gaming conditions before the game ends. I just love minis and want to place one of the board as an ominous reminder...

And don't worry about the "all of them" bit. It should have been "as many as possible", which is more sensible. lol

Now, anyone else can post pics of more minis yet?

The ones Dolmot posted are from Black cat Bases:
http://blackcatbases.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=437_489

Now, to recap. So far, from the Great Old Ones, I have Cthulhu, Hastur and Chauga Faugn covered. Still need pics of Nyarlathotep, Tsuthoggua, Yig and Y'golonac (all by Rafm). Plus a pic of a wendigo by Crocodile Games. And since we are at it, the Nyarly made by Grenadier/Mirliton.

From the monsters, I like the deep ones made by Black Cat, and since they are scaled to my investigators, they are covered too.
The Hounds of Tindalos from rafm are cool, too; but I've remembered I have some hellhounds by Heresy Miniatures, so I'm going to save some money and just use them.
The Dark Young of Shubby is as big as I expected, so that's tickled too.
The Biakhee made by Rafm is way too big, but it's the only sculpt that I like (the Em4 and the Grenadier ones are crap imo), so I'll go for another monster, likely the mi-go.
Talking of which, can we have comparison pics of the Mi-go made by Black Cat, by Em4, and by Grenadier?
And still remain unpictured the following creatures by Rafm: Hunting horror, Servitor of the outer gods, and Leng spider.

Thanks!

That Rafm Nyarly is much bigger than I thought! I think I'll go with the Mirliton one, because I don't want one of the Great Old Ones being so much bigger than the rest. Even if it is the Crawling Chaos.

On a comical note, I love the way Cthulhu seems to be eyeing upon the biakhee... Yum yum?

And a last one with some unpainted figures:

Thanks again.

The Hunting Horror is big enough, so that's another one tickled from the list.
The Servitor, on the other hand, is tiny! How comes it has such a high price tag (as much as the biakhee or the flying polip)? ???

I've found this comparison pic from Tengu Models (likely everybody here already knew of it, dunno, I'm still a newbie):

If anyone else has more pics, please share. With so many companies having their go at mythos creatures, it's handy to find all (or most) of them in one thread.
