Thanks again for the comments. I've added the model to the online shop and bundled it with 4 white metal tentacles.

release it ASAP so I can get one, paint it red and use it as a Soviet mutant monster roaming the prospects of Pripyat
Cool idea, I'm making one into a Biotank for my Grey Aliens ;)

Bigger problem IMO is making something that big maneuverable enough on the table. Vehicles are a static shape, so it's okay if they're restricted to main roads and such, but shoggies' amorphousness means they should be physically able to follow a player pretty much anywhere, despite their bulk. I can think of at least four ways to do that off the top of my head, but they'd all drive the cost up, and one of those would necessitate prepaints.
You can think of four ways? I can't think of any save a shoggoth shaped water balloon..

cheers

Iain

Ordered two rightaway...fantastic sculpts! Your best sculpt so far. It's Lovecraftian in the best way possible. The first order I placed went fast and excellent, so I knew I wanted to order these rightaway 8)

You can think of four ways? I can't think of any save a shoggoth shaped water balloon..

I was thinking beanbag rather than water balloon. I've got a beanbag I made for a photography class on my desk (it also makes a nice wrist pad for my mouse hand) which gave me the idea. It's not a normal beanbag, but one designed to be mouldable and to hold the shape you smush it into so it can "grab" and support the camera body or lens barrel. The same principles could be used to make a rubber beanbag shoggoth that could be squished or stretched into different shapes. This is the one that would need to be a prepaint, since hobby paints would just crack or rub off something like that. It'd pretty much have to be painted using intrinsically colored variations of the casting rubber.

The other three ideas involved breaking the shoggoths bulk down into a series of individually cast modular "globs" which could be rearranged by the player to create different profiles. The first idea was just to sculpt the globs to tessellate in two dimensions to create a kind of tangram shoggoth model. That lead to me thinking of embedding magnets in the various surfaces, which of course would make three dimensional tessellation possible. The third idea was to make the globs mechanically connected in a ball-and-socket chain (linear or radial/fractal) which could be wadded or drawn out into different shapes by the player.

The 2D "tangram shoggoth" would be the most practical & economical as a product, but I would love to try the bean bag method.

History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

Ahh, now that I think about it again, the bean bag method is doable as a DIY without resorting to rubber. Wouldn't look quite as good, but it would work. Oh, god, arcane shapes are forming in my head... I gotta try this now.
